The Black Dog, White Swan podcast features special guests discussing the concept of high functioning mental illness. Using a relaxed conversational format, we help educate listeners about the truth of living with an invisible mental illness and the struggles this can bring. Through insightful discussions and candid dialogue, we inspire and enlighten our audience through the power of shared experience. We believe that normalising these conversations is an important step in not just raising awareness, but taking action.
We want less people to feel trapped in their own minds, alone and misunderstood. We want more people to understand that just because someone seems confident, extrovert, happy, successful and can function well on a day to day basis, this does not make their internal struggles any less valid. We need everyone to learn that mental illness can affect anyone and that our ability to cope on the surface doesn't invalidate the impact of the battles fought within.
Black Dog White Swan - Ep 10 - Abbie & Sadie's raw chat
This is the last episode in the first series of Black Dog White Swan. This episode was completely impromptu and was recorded after we'd been in the studio recording an interview with a guest. Both of us were feeling emotional and slightly rattled that day, so we thought that - rather than only ever discussing mental health when we're feeling ok and taking things from a 'theoretical' standpoint - it would be hugely important to capture how we were feeling by being completely vulnerable and discussing how we coped with those feelings right there, in situ!

In this episode we discuss men's mental health with Dr. Hilary Jones with particular reference to the 'Heads up Heads together' campaign, which saw the charity join forces with the Football Association, with the aim of encouraging men to talk and change the conversation around mental health.
