Summary
“Black Box” is about a man struggling to regain his memory after surviving a tragic car accident. Desperate to return to his former self while trying to raise his daughter, he receives an experimental treatment that helps him probe into a past which suddenly feels too dark to be his own.

Filming

In February 2020, it was announced Mamoudou Athie, Phylicia Rashad, Amanda Christine, Tosin Morohunfola and Troy James, had joined the cast of the film, with Jason Blum producing under his Blumhouse Television banner, with Amazon Studios distributing. The film is the first in an 8-part deal Blumhouse has with Amazon Studios. Principal photography took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 75% based on 51 reviews, with an average rating of 6.38/10. The site’s critics consensus reads, “An intriguing debut for writer-director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, Black Box compensates for a lack of surprises with strong performances and an emotionally rewarding story.” On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 62 out of 100, based on 11 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.
