BPD Book Club - Stop Walking on Eggshells Introduction (feat. Talon)

BPD Book Club - Stop Walking on Eggshells Introduction (feat. Talon)

Welcome to your newest BBB mini-series!! Every Wednesday you will get a bonus episode until we've read EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER of the book Stop Walking on Eggshells that was republished as a 2nd edition in 2010.

Here's the deal - we are reviewing this book from a critical lens, but we only have so much ability to be critical as we're reading it from the perspective of someone having BPD and the partner of someone with BPD. These are our opinions and we hope to teach others how stigmatizing language damages us and the people who love those of us with BPD. We also point out some of the benefits of this book. This mini-series is NOT a shit on this book, nor is it a recommendation of this book. It is simply a critical review of a book that most people who have a BPD family member, partner, loved one, or friend has been recommended.

This week we are reviewing the introduction of the book. Each week we will review one full chapter until the book is complete. Enjoy!

From tragedy to supporting others (feat. Lynn from Sashbear)

From tragedy to supporting others (feat. Lynn from Sashbear)

On June 17th 2011, Sasha Courey lost her battle to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and died by suicide at the age of 20. Sasha was a scholarship athlete and a gifted student with a promising future. The pain associated with the BPD was too great and the system failed to support her needs.  Sasha struggled to understand why the treatment that was “air to breathe” was so expensive and difficult to locate.
Sasha's family created the Sashbear Foundation in her legacy, and have been changing lives through advocacy and skills training ever since Sasha's tragic passing.
In this episode Sara and Laurie chat with Sasha's mom Lynn (Sashbear's Founder and President) about founding the Sashbear Foundation, how they support families, and her perspective of Sasha's story.
Particularly moving is Lynn's reflections on how she would have done things differently with the skills she has been able to learn in the last decade.

lone wolf 6 ,

beautiful, raw honesty

i am so grateful for this podcast. there is so much stigma around borderline personality disorder that it isn’t exactly a casual conversation. listening to laurie & sara & their experiences & stories & skills makes me feel less isolated in my experience. i’ve heard the saying “secrets keep us sick, and community is how we heal” & laurie & sara definitely have created a community.

Speechless.

I listen on Stitcher but I HAD to come here to rate & review because this podcast is so WORTH a listen! I am a new listener so I’m still working my way through the “older” episodes but for the first time in my life I feel understood! The hosts are honest, lighthearted, and easy to listen to; it feels like your talking with friends. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who is diagnosed, knows someone who is diagnosed, or anyone who is generally interested in mental health. I look forward to the new episodes

Poppunkchick233 ,

Thanks

The most important person in my life is BPD and having resources to help me understand things better is so critical. We both have mental health issues and help is not easy to find but we need it. Thank you for this keep it up your both amazing!!
