Always upbeat.

Always helpful. I love the energy these two create. I get encouraged and many doable ideas for my business. I have written 13 books and indie published 8 so I need marketing ideas that are solid. Theirs are!

Hand drawing is at the basis of nearly all covers

I usually glean some interesting ideas from this podcast, but I must say I was irritated by the terminology used in the “pet peeves about covers” episode. As a lifelong artist with many friends in the business and as the current art director for my small press I kept grinding my teeth at the uninformed commentary on art that I fear may have left some listeners confused. The art style of “hand drawing” is completely different from amateurish scribbles by an under-funded indie author with no background in the visual arts. If you don’t know the difference, kindly inform yourself about the terminology before you get on a popular podcast and say misleading things! Authors are wise to seek qualified help in aspects of publishing that they don’t understand. May I suggest that you offer the guidance “if your understanding extends only to ‘how hard could it be?’ Or’I probably can’t afford it so I’ll just wing it,’ seek professional help! The two things most indies can do to improve their books the most for the money invested are to hire the best editor, and the best cover designer, they can! (And a good proofreader is another quality choice).
