    The End of Empire

This year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. At age 96, the Queen is the longest-reigning monarch in British history, and her eldest son, Prince Charles, has waited longer than any heir presumptive in British history to ascend the throne. Practically no one alive today in the UK can remember a time before the Queen. But as his moment approaches, so does widespread apprehension: Can Prince Charles fill his mother’s shoes? Will the people accept him as king? Is there even a place for monarchy in our modern world?

The Prince Who Talked to Flowers

The Prince Who Talked to Flowers

Prince Charles has long been seen as an eccentric - his passion for gardening and watercolor painting combined with his love of the luxurious royal life has given him the reputation of being out-of-touch with the average person. But Charles might also be considered ahead of his time - a long-time environmentalist who’s been spearheading initiatives for sustainable living for more than 50 years. Many of the prince’s ideas, at first quickly dismissed, have turned out to be prescient. We’re taking a deeper look at this complex man. Did he become Prince Charles because of his upbringing or despite it? And how will the Prince Charles that we have come to know evolve into King Charles when he must meet his destiny.

    Whatever "In Love" Means

    Whatever "In Love" Means

In 1981, the world watched as Prince Charles married the perfect royal bride: Lady Diana Spencer. Young, beautiful, and stylish, Diana breathed new life into the monarchy. But the fairytale didn’t last long. In the years that followed, Diana and Charles’s troubled marriage and bitter divorce was a constant in the tabloids, and Diana’s death in a car accident in 1997 shook the world. And through it all, Charles gained a reputation as an unfaithful husband to the “people’s princess” as he carried on an affair with friend Camilla Parker Bowles. But today, Camilla — once known as the notorious “other woman” — is poised to become Queen Consort when Charles takes the throne. It’s a reflection of the changes the monarchy has undergone in the aftermath of the Charles and Diana saga… and the fulfillment of Prince Charles’s decades-long quest to have the love of his life accepted by the royal establishment and the British public.

Keri Simmons! One of the best!

I really like Keri Simmons! He’s not only one of my favourite Royal correspondents but one of my favourite overall journalists!!! Love when he’s on the Today Show! He always makes it fun but is serious when he needs to be! I really enjoyed this podcast and really hope there are more seasons to come! He definitely needs more seasons here on this show but I would love for him to host more of his own royal podcast. Either for NBC or on his own. Either way, I think it would be in one of the top spots in no time!

Hey Keri, I hope you or one of the decision-makers see this and/or all the others and start talking about him having his own show/podcast. I would be a day 1 listener!

Appreciated this podcast as presented to an American

I heard about this podcast nearly a year ago but didn’t listen to it until now (April 2023). As an American I was aware of most of the information presented in this podcast. I was unaware, however, of the power of the sovereignty of the British Constitution as presented. I would have hated to be Princess Diana, or even Meghan, and NOT be able to be “the real me.” More power to Harry for being able to live more true to himself (before he met Meghan). Since I didn’t grow up with a monarchy, even though I did attend junior college in western Canada in the early 1970s, I never did see the current, modern need for a monarchy—along side with the British Parliament; duplication of work? But yes, I did stand on the side of to the road in London & saw the carriage/coach pass by when Princess Anne got married in November 1973 … I couldn’t understand all of the gossip afterwards of the clothes/colors the various members of the royal family wore to that wedding — but we have been hearing similar types of gossip with Harry and Meghan living 200+ miles now down the road from me. No one can change the color of one’s skin, yet every other part of each person’s body is nearly the same; why should so much emphasis be placed on the outer surface (skin), than on the inner self (the heart)? Why are we, as individuals or even as a nation, so quick to placing judgment on others due only to others’ skin colors?

I have always had great respect for Keir Simmons as a newscaster. Will a second season come out on this soon after Charles III’s coronation on May 6, 2023 and, again, present a British point of view for us Americans? Please do so!
