Episode 243-Flavia Leal Shares Her Story about Changing Lives through Beauty-with Lois Sonstegard,PHD

Welcome to Episode 243 of Building My Legacy.

In this podcast we talk with Flavia Leal, the founder of the largest Brazilian beauty school in the U.S. Flavia shares her immigrant story with us — how she came to the U.S. at age 19 and was successful at a number of business ventures until her parents’ deaths and financial setbacks sent her into a serious depression. When she discovered that doing makeup for friends — for free — was good therapy, she found her life’s work: teaching other women how to change lives through beauty.

So if you want to know:

    – About a success story that has helped thousands of women find a new path

    – Why the teachers at this beauty school ask their students, “What’s your story?”

    – How beauty can help people build their self-confidence

    – A healthy alternative to covering up skin with layers of make-up

    About Flavia Leal

Flavia Leal is the founder of the Flavia Leal Beauty School and a champion for all women. Immigrating to the U.S. from Brazil with nothing more than a dream, Flavia built a beauty empire and, along the way, “brought up” thousands of women by helping them find entrepreneurship with beauty and beyond. She is working on a book about 19 women she has met through her school and the wonderful stories of their lives. Flavia believes that her school doesn’t just teach women a new profession, but shows them there is a way out of things they’re unhappy with. Find out more about Flavia and her beauty school at her website, www.flavialeal.com

Episode 242-Marc Bernstein on Financial Planning that Addresses Life and Business Stages-with Lois Sonstegard,PHD

Episode 242-Marc Bernstein on Financial Planning that Addresses Life and Business Stages-with Lois Sonstegard,PHD

Welcome to Episode 242 of Building My Legacy.

What’s been your experience with financial planners? Does the discussion start with a product the financial planner thinks is best for you? If so, you’ll appreciate this podcast in which Marc Bernstein explains why financial planning should have nothing to do with product but everything to do with your goals or the stage of your life or business. He shares with us his unique approach to financial planning, which is detailed in his book, The Fiscal Therapy Solution 1.0. We also discuss the importance of planning your legacy and how talking about your legacy can keep you focused on the future and put positive energy back into your business and your life.

So if you want to know:

    – What they don’t teach you in MBA school
    – Why having a three-year vision is so important
    – The biggest hindrances to an honest discussion about money
    – How personal and business finances come together for entrepreneurs
    – The importance for business owners to know their “end game”

    About Marc Bernstein

Marc Bernstein grew up in a family business, gaining first-hand experience about planning for closely held businesses. An attorney, Marc left the practice of law to do something that would really help people create the future they desired for themselves, their families and their businesses. He founded MWealth Advisors, which specializes in solving complexity in his clients’ personal and business lives. His book, The Fiscal Therapy Solution 1.0, takes a fresh look at the financial planning process by moving from the product-based methodology the financial services industry has used for decades to a process that helps people turn their financial dreams into goals and ultimately into reality. More information about Marc and his in-person think tank for manufacturers in Southeastern Pennsylvania is available at www.marcjbernstein.com

Episode 241-Harry Glantz on the Top HR Priorities for Leaders Now-with Lois Sonstegard,PHD

Episode 241-Harry Glantz on the Top HR Priorities for Leaders Now-with Lois Sonstegard,PHD

In this podcast we talk with Harry Glantz, an accomplished HR leader and agent of change. Harry recently retired as the senior vice president/chief human resources officer at Railworks Corporation, which does maintenance and construction for railroads. Our discussion includes what employers need to do now with respect to the changes that have taken place with today’s workforce and the prevalence of remote working. While many employees may not be ready to come back to the office fulltime, Harry believes that others miss the opportunity to interact with management and basically “show off” the project they’re working on. That conflict is just one of the important topics we explore with Harry who also gives us a unique perspective on collaboration.

So if you want to know:

    – How collaboration can only be effective if it involves a cross section of the organization

    – About the importance of senior executives being visible to their employees

    – What may happen if the economy doesn’t improve in the next few months

    – Why senior management shouldn’t count on virtual meetings with employees to create the connections today’s employees want

    – About the need to look at every employee as a contract worker

    About Harry Glantz

An accomplished global chief human resources officer, Harry Glantz recognizes the importance of the convergence of HR, marketing, social media, technology, metrics and big data. He recently retired as senior vice president human resources for RailWorks, a railroad maintenance and construction company. He calls himself “not your typical HR executive” and has been a hands-on agent of change within private and public companies, union and non-union — with employee populations from 100 to more than 3,000. You can find Harry on LinkedIn at www.linkedin.com/in/harryglantz.

ROI on your employees - brilliant advice from guest Danielle

This was an insightful episode for me and really for any business owner.

We understand the importance of our sales team performing, but really every person in the company is contributing to the fiscal success of the organization.

Great advice Danielle.

Have a Shadow Day for candidates

What a great idea, to have a Shadow Day for candidates that you are pursuing. It gives not only you, but the candidate an idea to if they would be a good fit with the company, without a large investment. Every company should do this.

BizownerX3 ,

I never thought of it that way!

Hello Lois:

Enjoyed your episode with Danielle Mulvey (#228) and your discussion about dealing with an inflated payroll.

If I could find, as she said, better, more responsible employees - I could reduce my payroll because I can move the non-performers out - I would have less employees to deal with which equals less payroll and benefits!

What entrepreneur doesn’t want that!
