Welcome to A Counselors Journey To Private Practice. I'm your host, Juan.
Today we interview clinician Dr. Amanda Szabo-Huff, a chiropractic practice in North Carolina, who owns Good Health Greensboro Chiropractic & Wellness.
Dr. Amanda Szabo-Huff shares her journey in building Good Health Greensboro Chiropractic & Wellness so that counselors in private practice can learn the importance of communication and relationship building to improve the counseling business.
How does chiropractic work help with stress?
Stress happens in the prefrontal cortex of our brains. That part of the brain mediates how we experience our daily lives and how we express who we are as individuals. This part of the brain will capture sleep and inflammation. It also works with the autonomic nervous system – how our body heals. Spinal movements hugely influence it.
How does the spinal movement flood the prefrontal cortex?
When you go through trauma, it affects your perception of reality. You might be in a completely different space now, but you're reliving the effects and experiences of that time. You may be blocking out new things in the environment. Your brain is so adapted to the trauma that it cannot adjust to the present time.
The importance of having movement through the spine:

Our brain interprets pain. Stress and pain can initially start in the body, but the mind will analyze it. If our brain isn't picking up on it, then we won't feel the pain. If there is no pain in the body, but our mind is picking it up, there will be a pain. However, one way to break the perception is through the movement of the spine.
Chiropractic work can help with asthma.
Our body will perceive what is real through the spine. If our spine isn't moving accurately, then health problems will occur. For instance, a chiropractor can help with asthma. Once our spine is moving correctly, we get all this new information to our prefrontal cortex. If you struggle with anxiety, chiropractic work can also help.
Chiropractic work will help lower stress.
If you are in fight or flight, your cortisol and hormones are flowing through all of your systems. Your nervous system will need information from your organs to tell your brain that you are okay. This communication isn't going to happen if your spine isn't in the correct place. Chiropractic work will give you transformative treatment. You can implement different resources in your healing journey.
