“Business in Between” a new podcast from the Between Two Beers studio.

This is a podcast which will trace our journey of building a business and bring you the most inspiring stories from New Zealand business people. In the last 12 months we've left our "day jobs", built a team, taken huge financial risks, learned the numbers, become salesmen, hired a mindset coach, figured out a marketing strategy, and turned a friendship into a business partnership.  We are now running three businesses concurrently and are really excited to lift the lid on it all!

To kick it off, we’re exploring Between Two Beers podcast back catalogue across five years to uncover the treasure chest of business wisdom. We’ve re-cut the best business lessons from epic old episodes, and trimmed the fat. We’re all business here!

Dion Nash talking Triumph and Disaster, Marc Ellis on Charlie's juice, Tim Brown on All Birds, Lucy Blakiston on Shit You Should Care About, Brodie Kane on Brodie Kane Media, Izzy Whitley on ALH, Duane Dalton on Pita Pit, Luke Kemeys on Keep the Change, Hamish Pinkham on Rhythm and Vines, Steve Dunstan on Huffer….

Raelene Castle: How I Navigated My Biggest Challenges in the Business of Sport

Raelene Castle: How I Navigated My Biggest Challenges in the Business of Sport

This week on Business in Between we revisit our chat with Raelene Castle from earlier this year.

Raelene is the CEO of Sport NZ, and one of the most accomplished and experienced administrators in NZ sport.

She spent six years as CEO of Netball NZ, before becoming the first female CEO of an NRL team, when she led the Bulldogs for six years.

After that she smashed another glass wall, becoming Rugby Australia’s first female CEO in 2018.

In this episode we talk about the challenges of the Israel Folau saga, when she found herself at the centre of one of sports biggest controversies at Rugby Australia, how she got the job at the Bulldogs, her relationship with Des Hassler and the most insightful memories from six years inside the NRL, lessons in leadership, how she got her start at Netball NZ, her return to New Zealand and the challenges facing sport here.

After listening to this, you’ll get a taste for why Raelene has had the career she has. She’s the real deal, full of energy, sharp as a tack and doesn’t miss a beat. This was a lot of fun and we're so stoked to be able to bring Raelene’s story to you in full.

We're also delighted to announce Raelene is part of our business at B2B Speakers. If you'd like to hire Raelene, or one of our other guests to speak at your function or event, flick us a message by going to B2Bspeakers.co.nz

Israel Whitley: How I Built ALH Into a $30 Million Business at 28

Israel Whitley: How I Built ALH Into a $30 Million Business at 28

This week on Business in Between we're revisiting our chat with Izzy Whitley from 2023.

Izzy is one of New Zealand’s most successful, self-made men under 30. At 29 he has founded two businesses that do over $30 million a year in revenue and has the world at his feet. But things weren’t always so smooth.

In the full episode of this podcast, on the Between Two Beers feed, you can hear about his incredible rise; from his humble beginnings in Gisborne to leaving home at 16 and dropping out of uni. At the age of 21 he had lost his father to suicide, suffered two heart attacks himself, and was dealing with his trauma, alone, with nothing, in an Auckland hospital. That’s when he had the idea to start Auckland labour hire, by contracting himself out to construction sites.

And that's where we pick up this conversation from, the building of his business.Auckland labour hire is now Aotearoa labor hire, with 11 branches around the country and a short-term goal of $100 million in annual revenue.

Izzy’s story is captivating and his mindset is inspirational. We both left this recording quite blown away. His approach to life, adversity and using his time – is just different... and is probably the most dialled in under 30 we’ve ever spoken too.

    Enjoy.

How Brodie Kane Became CEO Of Her Independent Media Company

On this episode of Business in Between we talk to Brodie Kane.

Brodie is a Kiwi media pioneer.

She had an extensive career in radio and television working for the Hits and TVNZ before she was made redundant from her Christchurch radio gig in 2020.

That’s when she decided to start her own company – Brodie Kane Media – where she hosts the very popular The Girls Uninterrupted and Kiwi Yarns podcasts, and produces two other podcasts, Three Gals One Beehive, and Out the Gayte.

When we recorded, Brodie was two-years into her journey as an entrepreneur and details the realities of getting an independent media company off the ground.
