Satellite Citi made a stop motion music video, and you can too!

For Satellite Citi, spending a night on stage at Hollywood's infamous Whisky-a-Go-Go with a spacesuit-clad guitarist and bass player is just business as usual. Originally, husband and wife Anna and Shaunt Sulahian started Satellite Citi as a duo—Anna on drums and vocals, and Shaunt on lead guitar. As they evolved, their story-filled music videos paired with a solid rock foundation kept their fan base coming back for more. Today, they're known for continuously pushing boundaries as an independent project.
In today's episode, Marilyn chats with Anna and Shaunt about the origin story of the band, how they filmed and edited their own stop-motion music video, and how mental health impacts their view of the music industry.

Dree Mon’s brilliant shift from live music to Twitch

Dree Mon is no stranger to shape-shifting. She's since released several singles and music videos under the moniker 'Dree Mon.' In 2020, at the onset of the pandemic, Dree quickly adapted by shifting her live performance schedule to Twitch, building a channel that she has since grown to a community of over 5,000 fans.
In today's episode, Marilyn chats with Dree about her early days in the entertainment industry, how she made the pivot into music, and all things Twitch (including her gear setup and favorite plug-ins).

DAMNAGE (Tim Stewart and Jonny Goood) explore music beyond social media

Meet DAMNAGE, the electrifying brainchild of guitarist Tim Stewart and bassist Jonny Goood. Tim and Jonny first met as touring musicians, sharing the stage with artists like Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, before joining forces on their latest hip-hop-meets-punk project, DAMNAGE. Blending Tim's love of Bay Area punk with Jonny's hip hop roots comes naturally to these two, whose band just opened for Jane's Addiction on tour last spring. Spend just a few minutes with these guys and you'll learn how their mentality of just showing up and doing what you love can open a world of possibilities in the music industry. In today's episode, Marilyn chats with Tim & Jonny about making music on the road, latching into their own unique sound, and the fast-paced culture of social media marketing.

Laura Escudé on live looping, music design and mental health

Laura Escudé is a multi-instrumentalist and producer who also just happens to be one of Ableton’s very first certified trainers. These days, she’s known for her unique and cinematic live performances, utilizing electronic looping and violin in a live show experience all her own. She’s known to many in the industry as the “queen of the nerds,” and her love of gear has unlocked a whirlwind of opportunities for her career-wise, including an opening DJ slot for Miguel, and several years touring with Kanye West as his music designer.
In this episode, Marilyn chats with Laura about balancing personal artistic expression with big-name industry opportunities, as well as why taking breaks in your career is extremely important for your mental health. Laura is a total inspiration to the women out there who aren't afraid embrace their love and knowledge of music tech in a historically male-dominated space.
