Daily, consistent, fact-heavy left podcast

Indispensable leftist podcast, especially when it comes to raw news updates that cut through propaganda and shed light on events that would normally be buried. Detailed daily in-depth updates on public discourse, street politics, and back-door political machinations.

They stay on stories and follow up to create threads that cast many issues in a more comprehensive light, and also serve the function of watchdog that the media is supposed to uphold in their concrete coverage of issues such as police brutality. The hosts are excellent: principled but with perspective and good humor, and knowledgable of both theory and history.

This podcast is so content-rich and comprehensive, it amazes me they put up about two shows a day. Shows are packed with news bulletin updates and engaging discussions that pace well between serious commentary and cathartic humor that helps the medicine they’re giving go down.

Expect updates on often buried news relating to material class conditions, black liberation, anti-war and anti-imperialist efforts, immigration and the history of illegal US interventions that got us here, the tumorous big data tech nightmare, housing rights and displacement, police and court reform, workers rights, etc.

They consistently have great guests, which include frequent on-the-ground interviews from grassroots activists around the country. As an example, they recently had guests from Black Voters Matter in Georgia who reported on their efforts and struggles against the racist voter suppression there. This boots-on-the-ground reporting was excellent at cutting through the cover-ups and gaslighting that surrounded that issue. Their podcast has been exemplary at utilizing grassroots activists to shed similar light on many such issues and controversies.

The show is DC-based (although broader in perspective), and might come off to some flavors of leftist as not radical enough if engaged with too superficially. But I would argue this broadcast fills the gap between analysis of Establishment backdoor two-party realpolitik and leftist radical organizing, using the hosts’ personal knowledge of DC and US politics as well as engagement with actual local organizing to arm leftists with the knowledge to make them more informed and strategic about their radicalism.

Although I appreciate the more intense emotion and call-to-action of other (usually weekly rather than daily like BAMN) leftist podcasts, I also appreciate complimenting them with By Any Means Necessary, which at its best is a hard-hitting stream of facts and analysis that allows the importance and necessity of leftist analysis and community organizing to speak for themselves.

If you’re still searching for your place between the intractable brick wall of the two party system and a more radical activist approach that still has you feeling like you’re swimming in chaos without the support, tools, or guidance to organize an effective alternative, this podcast is for you. If you are more sure-footed in your political path but want to be armed daily with as much knowledge of the tendrils of the beast as possible, from established pro-war democrats to police and proud boys, this podcast is for you.

BAMN has content for reformist-leaning DemSocs, anarchists, greens, “tankies,” etc. Not because of watered-down big-tent centrism, but because they offer a full course meal of leftist content that has at least one dish for everyone.

Not many daily leftist news podcasts like this out there, so do yourself a favor and give BAMN a shot. They do daily listener call-ins as well, so join the discussion! Shout out to Eugene, Sean, and yes even Bob for the hard work they put into this program.
