James Parkinson Storytelling + Football= Perfection

Storytelling is one of the most difficult things to do in podcasting. It requires extensive research, careful planning and attention to detail, an immense amount of editing.

James does all of this well, and brings stories of the game we love to life in a way that is still relevant when the next round of fixtures have come and gone.

I've yet to find anything else like it, and it remains a show that jumps to the front of the line when a new episode comes out.

a welcome antidote to modern football

At the risk of overstating it a bit, By Association has reconnected me to the multifarious soul of football. Not, as in some quarters, an often falsely-assumed history of local one-club fandom that is the purview of so few these days or, as in others, an interest in the ceaseless and senseless humming and whirring of the global economic behemoth of superclubs, superagents and superbrands. Instead, James Parkinson's earnest interest in following the threads of the global football quilt connects the listener to what makes football so central to the lives of so many: the love of the game and the infinitely varied narratives which surround and comprise it.
