My-Linh Thai contains multitudes. She's a state representative. An education leader. A pharmacist. Deputy Majority Leader of the Washington State House of Representatives. A parent. A refugee, the first ever elected to the state House. Most of all, she's someone who cares about others, and that becomes clear when you look at the the legislation she's authored during her six years in Olympia, and when you hear her speak. You'll get the chance to do both in today's Capitol Ideas.

Learn how our government works

This podcast does an excellent job discussing how the state House works and what some representatives feel about different issues facing the state. Great podcast. Wish you would post more.

restores faith

I don't agree with everything said by the people intervied(or done by the legislature)...but these conversations restore my faith a little bit in our state legislature. At least we have reasonably bright, articulate and thoughtful people struggling in good faith with difficult issues. It seems all that is in the newspapers and blogs are controversies, scandal, and the "horserace" of campaigns, etc. It's interesting (for me at least) to hear my legislator and others talk more in depth about the things they're working on-- most of which is not sexy and ideological. These conversations also are a good reminder of how MANY issues the Legislature deals with...and how the legislators seem to have to be generalists to a huge degree...but also (from these interviews) seem to be specialists and very knowledgable in certain areas. Not an easy job-- not something I'd want to take on!

Good show -- never heard anything like it before.

I stumbled across this podcast trying to find something else, and now I wish they'd make more. It's about politics but it's not political -- there's no Us vs. Them, no screaming, no name-calling or fireworks. It's just political-types talking calmly about their jobs. If there were more shows like this, maybe people would come to see how pointless and "show-biz" the screaming heads are. Interesting.
