In the bonus episode, of Carry On Friends we’re doing an episode swap with Style & Vibes featuring the Small Axe episode.

Small Axe is a British anthology film series, created and directed by Steve McQueen. The anthology consists of five films that tell distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. Mikelah of Style & Vibes and Rachel Osbourne of Julie Mango TV to discuss the anthology series’ as it directly relates to the Caribbean and its diaspora. We explore the name of the series, its focus around Black struggles with racism, accessibility to the full diaspora, coverage by black mainstream media and community connection.

As mentioned I'm sharing this episode because the Small Axe series can serve as a good conversation starter with family about their immigrant experiences. I'd love to see a similar series done about early Caribbean Immigration to the U.S.

    Exploring Dual Citizenship

    Exploring Dual Citizenship

One of the topics that came out of the Carry On Friends audience focus group was connecting with roots. I will talk more about the survey and focus group results in an upcoming episode.

But this week Ashley from the AshFiMon  & Keisha, host of The Oh Hell No Podcast join me on the podcast to discuss Dual Citizenship.  We touched on what inspired them both to consider it and how much it means to them. We also discussed dual citizenship as a consideration for small children.

    Business Lessons from Corporate America

    Business Lessons from Corporate America

In this episode my guest and I explore the dynamics of being a Caribbean multi-national, and how working in corporate America influences business, even in the Caribbean. We dived into all of this with Guyana-born businessman, Jay Warde, who resides in both St. Lucia and America. With years of experience in corporate America, he shares his greatest lessons in business.
Jay believes that business is not for the faint of heart and it is like “war without guns,” and time management, being detail-oriented and believing in yourself are all important factors in business success.
Jay encourages us to believe that our Caribbean culture and style is not below that of other nations, and we can no longer say that the Caribbean lacks opportunities, skill or even the right people for business success.
