CDL67: Nothing Beats a Mother’s Intuition with Sara German Carpe Diem Living

    • Alternative Health

Our guest for this episode is Sara German from Canada. Sara is a Podcast Host and Author. Sara is also also a mom to a son with PANDAS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections).

After struggling to find a treatment and a diagnosis for her son and dealing with the disorder for five years, Sara wrote a middle-grade novel called Pendulum by S.E. German, that outlines the challenges of this disorder and middle-grade life.

11 years ago his son started to have various neuropsychiatric kinds of mental health issues. He was exuding some aggression, anxiety, and OCD tendencies, but the most noticeable was his motor ticks and the difference in his personality, and the way he interacts.

She started with the traditional western medical route but even that wasn’t helpful. After not seeing much results and help, she tried to use her background in public policy and research. She started doing her own research and contacting numerous other doctors that may be interested in this type of issue. That is where she stumbled upon a parent’s group that was talking about PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections). Eventually, she was able to find a pediatrician who was willing to take steps needed for her son’s condition and has used natural methods as well.

She wrote the book Pendulum to help the mental health community, kids and young adults who are struggling with PANDAS and other similar issues, and to highlight the many roadblocks that they are facing in the medical system.

In this episode, Shane and Sara talk about her search for answers for his child’s condition, Sara’s battle with her own autoimmune disease, and how being vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free helps their conditions.
