In the first time of Chai Noon history I’m (Hanik) will be trying to make the podcast be relevant.

This is a more unusual episode and should return to normal service next week.

With the first adaptation of the book to screen is coming to the screen this weekend on the BBC, I thought I should share with you my thoughts on the book. What the story is about (without giving away any spoilers to a twenty year old book), my thoughts on the book (a mini review of sorts) and then leave you wanting more by reading out the first three parts of the book.

On this week's #episode, Hanik welcomes long time friend Rahul (@rahuldowlath) onto the podcast.

After a brief conversation about #covid situation in #SouthAfrica and how Rahul is doing in #lockdown, you get to hear about how #indian #durban is from someone else. From the iconic #chatsworth gold tooth, to #bunnychow by the beach.

Rahul shares stories of travelling in #India and how coming from South Africa gives an unique perspective of #travelling back to the "motherland". Rahul goes on to tell us about his slightly unusual #career (for a #desi) as an #architect and how his family supported him in his endeavours.

Interspersed with all of this is Hanik and Rahul trading old stories about their childhood, with a shout out to the Mission to Mars animated film they wanted to create.

In this week's episode, Hanik speaks to Tani Khara, a PhD student at the University of Technology Sydney. Hanik and Tani have an academic talk about food in India and India's vegetarian roots. They look at regional differences, differences in caste, class, and what the future of the Indian diet looks like. Tani also talks about sustainable diets and discusses environmentally friendly meat.

This week Hanik and our guest Saffy (@dearbrowngirl) talk about Bend it Like Beckham and whether or not it's dated. The conversation moves onto Saffy's blog on intersectional feminism and her explaining how she first explored it. Of course, the conversation eventually devolves into food talk.
