    At eight years old, Lex Gillette started losing his eyesight. But his mother encouraged him to maintain his independence, keeping him in public schools and sports. With a natural talent for jumping, he continued to hone his skills as a co-captain on his high school track & field team. At 19 years old, Lex earned his first trip to the Paralympic Games in Athens, where he took home a silver medal. He would go on to compete in three more Paralympics and win three more silver medals.     Born with a rare condition in which the fibulas in his legs were never formed, AJ Digby had both his legs amputated below the knee when he was 10 months old and was fitted for prostheses just after his first birthday. Sports has always played an in important role in his life and with his family. He played quarterback and linebacker for his Otsego High School junior varsity football team and special teams on the varsity squad.



    AJ first learned about Paralympic track and field after watching the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games online and considers U.S. teammate Jerome Singleton, the first Paralympian he ever met, a mentor after being taken under his wing.

    Challenge Extended Presents: Track & Field Paralympian Scout Bassett

    Scout Bassett spent seven years in a government-run orphanage in China after she was abandoned on the side of a street following the loss of her right leg in a chemical fire as an infant. After being adopted and coming to the United States, Scout joined sports as a way to connect with her peers. She began running at the age of 14 and would represent Team USA at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. She is definitely an athlete to watch during the Tokyo Paralympics next year.

    Retired Army Sergeant Christy Gardner was injured as a result of a Line of Duty Incident as an MP during an Asia peacekeeping mission, eventually resulting in the amputation of both legs. Always a multi-sport athlete, she has continued her pursuit of being an elite athlete to this day. Christy is a member of the U.S. Women’s National Sled Hockey Team, serving as an assistant captain the past few years. But she is also focusing her attention on competing at the Tokyo Paralympics, particularly in shot put and discus.     Challenge Extended Presents: Wheelchair Basketball Star, Abby Dunkin

    In high school, Abigail Dunkin competed intrack and field, winning events in the 100m, 400m and shot put. She discovered wheelchair basketball watching the 2012 Paralympic Games in London on YouTube, immediately realizing she wanted to get involved in the sport.



    Abby would train with military veterans through the San Antonio ParaSport Spurs and was recruited by the University of Texas at Arlington to play for their women’s wheelchair basketball team, helping them win their first national title in 2016. Abby was also a member of Team USA’s women’s wheelchair basketball team that won a Gold medal in Rio.

    Challenge Extended presents: Track & Field Gold Medalist, Breanna Clark

    Breanna Clark is a Track & Field elite athlete. Diagnosed with autism at age four, Breanna ran on the women’s track team at Dorsey High School and at Pasadena City College. But she also excelled at the international level, winning a gold medal in the 400 meter at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, 40 years after her mother Rosalyn’s silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games. Breanna followed up that success by winning gold in 2017 and in 2019 at the World Championships and is looking forward to competing at the Tokyo Paralympics.
