Health Access - MercyMed
On this episode, Dr. Grant Scarborough and Billy Holbrook of MercyMed joined us. Grant is the founder and CEO of MercyMed and Billy is the Chief Development Officer. Both share their strong dedication to the community through their work at MercyMed but also as generous partners to other organizations. We talked about health access, how having affordable and quality care makes a difference to those that are in need, and that partnerships are the answer. We also discuss how Billy is not a doctor!
Public Housing - Dr. Whitehead
On this episode, Dr. Whitehead joins us. Dr. Whitehead is the Executive Director of the Phenix City Housing Authority. He is a recent resident of the valley, coming to us from Ohio where he spent much of his career dedicated to and focused on community and economic development. Dr. Whitehead commits much of his time to the community. He is an active member of the Phenix City Rotary Club and the East Alabama Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the board of the Chamber Foundation as well as many non profit organizations. Dr. Whitehead is an accomplished community servant and we are so pleased to have the opportunity to talk with him. He helped us understand what the Phenix City Housing Authority does, their goals for the community, and how they offer so much more than just housing.
AJ McClung YMCA - Chris Bryant
On this episode we are joined by Chris Bryant. Chris is the President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus. He has been with YMCA for more than 20 years, working as branch directors for several Columbus locations before he became President and CEO in 2020. We talked about the rich history of AJ McClung and how he connected to the YMCA - and made a huge impact. We also got into how poverty affects the AJ McClung branch, preventing violence, and how relationships change a neighborhood.
Mia Jackson - Power of the Purse
On this episode we are joined by Mia Jackson. Mia is a talented comedian listed as one of the top 20 people to watch by Creative Loafing in Atlanta. She was named Critic’s Choice Best Stand Up Comedian in Atlanta. She went on tour with Amy Schumer and has a special on Comedy Central. We discuss growing up in Columbus, how amazing our educators are, the importance of supporting other women and girls, and much more.

We chat with Sherricka about Black history, Kinfolx on Facebook and Instagram, Minor in Business - a non-profit geared toward young entrepreneurs, good advice for getting involved, and more!
On this episode, we are joined by Shana Young, assistant vice president of leadership development and executive director at the Leadership Institute at Columbia State University. Shana is a certified human behavior consultant and certified executive coach. She is also lead on strategic planning, research, development and writing for many Leadership Institute clients to include the City of Columbus ten year plan to end homelessness. We chat with Shana about leading and managing in the changing world, communicating effectively, and how important it is to trust your team.
