CheapShow Podcast

CheapShow is a comedy podcast all about getting the very best out of the worst! Be it Poundlands, Charity Shops, Car Boot Sales or Bargain Bins, hosts Paul Gannon & Eli Silverman poke around in the corners of the high streets and internet to find treasure in the trash. One week it could be a studio based show, the next, a live comedy event. It could even be a location report or a scripted adventure! A few things it is, however, is rude, crude, silly and drizzled in pop culture, nostalgia and plenty of verbal violence! It has guests, videos, songs, reviews, games and dares.     Ep 401: How Many Chevys?

    After all the excitement of 400, it’s back to the usual audio nonsense this week as Paul and Eli are joined by returning guest, Tom Mayhew! In a “much longer than expected” recording session, the terrible trio sample a range of odd fizzy pop and sample some homemade hot sauce! After much fuss, they’ve managed to secure the latest Coca Cola creation which is mixed with the flavour of Oreo cookies! Will it be more effervescent muck? Who knows? They also look into the curious fixation Germans apparently have with orange cola, and so they’ve got their hands on the premier brand to taste. As Tom is a bit of a Snooker fan, Paul’s found a board game based around the multi-balled sport called “Steve Davis Pot Black Snooker Break”! Hopefully it won’t be as dull as it looks. And FINALLY, Tom surprises Paul and Eli with a quiz about their past ventures, who will come out on top? We guess you will all have to find out by listening, won’t you?     In a change to their usual fortunes, Paul and Eli are getting to talk about CheapShow in a proper TV show. They’ve been invited to the studios of London Live near the centre of London for a quick chat about their forthcoming 400th episode. However, once the interview is done, what are the Cheap Chaps going to do next. They don’t really have an idea either! So, when all is said and done, they will do what they do best… They ramble onwards. In an impromptu “walkabout” episode, they’ll zip through East London, along the South Bank and back into the city centre and take in the sights, sounds and unfortunate smells of the capital! 400 is coming and so Paul and Eli decide to chill and take it easy this week.     It’s a big old busy week at CheapShow HQ, as Paul and Eli are going to be spending most this week FILMING episode 400. However, this means that Paul doesn’t fancy doing a full proper editing job on the podcast, so demands a “real time” one hour episode. Uncut. Almost Uncut. Despite the tight time limit, the cheap chaps actually cram quite a lot into the episode. They’ll gobble down liquorice chocolate, slurp some odd Irn Bru soda, snack on some truffle chips and attempt to swallow a sour “Warhead’s flavoured” pickle. And that’s just the tip of the overstuffed iceberg. To make things even more “interesting”, Paul and Eli are playing a secret game in the background, but it’s threatening to detail the podcast before the show even gets started. Who will “Get Got”?     Sometimes it’s just too hot to record the podcast indoors. On the hottest day of the year, Paul and Eli take the episode outside to craft some sun-baked economy comedy content. However, this is not a “walkabout” episode, not at all! This is a “sitabout” episode. They venture to a quiet meadow near Crouch End called Shepherd’s Cot where they can record the podcast in relative privacy… Apart from all the random nosy dogs and weird men coming out of bushes! This week, Eli has brought along four unusual sodas to sample. Except one isn’t a soft drink. In fact, they’re not sure WHAT it is. Obviously, Eli loves it.     Ep 396: Freddie Starr Swallowed My Soul

    Often, the “Paul’s Page Turners” segment of the show can offer up some wild and unfathomable books to investigate, but this week’s choice is a truly mad experience. Paul and Eli may be skeptics when it comes to all things supernatural, but they’re willing to hear a story out if it shows promise. The book in question was sold in Cancer Research Charity Shops across the UK and is entitled, “The Show Must Go On: Book Two”. Written by a possibly naïve believer, Malcom Thorogood’s proof of life after death comes in the form of visitations from one of the UK’s most notorious 1980s light entertainers… Freddie Starr! The man who allegedly ate a hamster (!!) and dealt in high energy, near crazed comedy is now back from the dead to offer some mindboggling experiences from beyond the grave. Paul is gobsmacked and Eli doesn’t believe one bit of it! But hey, if you don’t like ghosts there’s an “Off Brand Brand Off” segment to enjoy. Eli must rank FIVE orange soda brands to see if the Fanta or Tango brands are up to scratch compared to some considerably cheaper alternatives! See? There’s something for everyone!
