The never Ending Story
Greetings and peaceful salutations, Chief Yuya.
Excellent break down Chief! I watched this movie the shadow before last and I have to agree, they set the whole plot out at the breakfast scene. Quite a few of your other observation from this scene alone did get past me, however I immediately caught the idea that there was the element of disdain & attempt to quell Bastian's imaginative qualities by his father as they spoke about the Unicorn- something that we're taught from young ages not to belive in. The pain of losing his mother was put right in our faces so of course this would play out later with the Empress who was sought out by Atrea. I knew by the time it was revealed to Atrea (if that's spelled right) that the Empress had to be given a new name that Bastion would heve to pick it. However I didn't know that he would name her after his mother, which makes perfect sense because this is how he was able to imortalize her, or exalt her as diety. I also saw the correlation of not only the "bullies" and Bastian's own father being associated with the wolf being those mundane societal pressures and fears as a challenge to his imagination and mental limitations. I didn't make the correlation to Hiram Abiff though. That was very key! Thank you! The Swamp of Sadness let us know that our attachments and resentments can cause us to lose momentum in our life-journey. The things we hold on to in an attempt to stay the same, when our higher motivation is pushing for us to endure, perservere and grow from mundane ideas and "boxes" we are often encouraged to place ourselves in. The luck dragon Falcor made me think immediately of the Buraq, the "White Beast" that Al Nabiy Mustafa Muhammad Al Amin (PBUH) rode on his Night Journey - and the idea of being above the clouds being associated with his higher self. The tower also made me think o a fallic representation and the idea of resurrection, however I totally missed the Kabbalistic reference- again Excellent observation! I want to say more but again, it's getting a little lengthy. However I will say that I caught the idea of total darkness when Fantasia was destroyed. I said to myself, "This is the Story of Genesis & Utnaphistim of the Sumerian Deluge" with the one grain of sand, being basically "light" which to me was the creative spark- as well as sperm or the seed to germinate a whole new world through imagination. As you said there was so much packed into this movie- I totally missed that his middle name was Balthazar. I should have payed more attention because that lends so much to who Bastian is. As always, give thanks! Shaluwm Sabbat!
I’ve been a listener for at least a year, maybe longer! Tune in every day! I’ve learned a lot and from it I’ve unlearn to relearn! I went from being an archive student to an Anu member. I’m beyond humbled and grateful for this experience!! Modupe Chief Yuya!!!
