The Gift of the Holy Spirit

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/96129/The Holy Spirit is not ours to command and control. Instead, God invites us to openly receive and humbly submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit, who is the ultimate gift for those who follow Christ. The New Testament makes it clear the Holy Spirit is sent to empower, equip, edify, and sanctify believers. But what does that look like? What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and what does it mean for us individually and corporately as the Body of Christ?

    Promise In Persecution

    Promise In Persecution

https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/promise-in-persecution/Jesus predicted that persecution would come to His followers (JOHN 15:20). But Jesus also promised His Church would grow and flourish, even through persecution, by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit alive in us (Acts 1:8, Matt 28:18-20).

Persecution is promised to the Church not because God wishes us to suffer, but because anytime two opposing value systems collide, conflict eventually ensues. But thank God regardless of appearances, the power of persecution cannot overcome the power of the Holy Spirit acting in and through God’s People. When persecution scatters the Church, salvation spreads with it, and the Gospel takes root and grows in new places and new hearts, as “God makes all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Breaking Bread Study Series Wednesday Night – Week 2

https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/breaking-bread-study-series-wednesday-night-week-2/Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would empower His followers to become effective witnesses for Him. Our witness is both verbal and visible. Each of us is given spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit gives us the power/ability to discover and use our gifts to bless others.

    Declaration of Dependence

    Declaration of Dependence

https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/declaration-of-dependence/We cannot know true freedom independent from God. We will only know true freedom in dependence upon God.

On the 4th of July, Americans especially remember the claims of our Declaration of Independence which state how all people are granted “unalienable rights by our Creator,” such as, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Yet, how is it we human beings seem to forfeit these rights so easily from a spiritual perspective? When we pursue what we perceive to be freedom independent from God and God’s Word, spiritual freedom will only evade us. It is only in dependence upon God, experienced as we continually abide in Christ and His Word, that we may experience the eternal life and true freedom God alone can give.

    If This is from God

    If This is from God

https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/if-this-is-from-god/Throughout the first six chapters of the Book of Acts, the disciples of Jesus experienced the amazing manifestation of Holy Spirit in their lives. They spoke the Word of God with boldness and new tongues, lived together in community by sharing their resources and breaking bread from house to house, signs and wonders were done by the apostles, and believers were daily added to their number.

Yet… The religious leaders arrested, threaten, and beat the disciples on numerous occasions because they spoke in the Name of Jesus. Their anger eventually led to plans of killing the apostles. But God used the advice of a Pharisee, Gamaliel, to speak truth to power and win the apostle’s freedom. His words, “If this is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them.”, should guide us to true north of what it means to be the Church.
