Fulfilling Your God-Given Purpose: What's Money Got to Do With It? with Portia Jackson [ep.196]

Is money connected to fulfilling your God-given purpose? How do you pursue your purpose without making money an idol? And is there such a thing as a non-woo version of manifestation that is okay for Christians to use?
In this episode, you’ll hear an engaging conversation between Holly and our guest, Portia Jackson. Portia is a Certified Financial Planner and owns her own business called Wealthy and Fulfilled.
Portia shares her journey to the finance world from being a literal rocket scientist. She talks about the struggles of mothering a child with special needs and she also shares how her leadership journey opened up when she finally found her gifting and pressed into God’s will for her life.
Portia and Holly hit some pretty hard topics head-on in the episode. They talk about everything from race and African American female role models, to how the Enneagram can help us identify how we relate to money, and lastly they discuss the concept of Christ-centered manifestation.
I know this episode will challenge you but also encourage you to think objectively about how you relate to money and how your mindset has served you or hurt you.

What Confident Leaders Look Like [Revisiting Leading with Confidence] [Ep. 195]

What Confident Leaders Look Like [Revisiting Leading with Confidence] [Ep. 195]

Do you ever struggle with your own confidence in your leadership role? Maybe you’re plagued with self-doubt or imposter syndrome. Perhaps you’ve convinced yourself that you’re not the one for the job. These fears and doubts can be so loud in our heads, but they are not the reality or the truth that God has called us to live in.
Almost 4 years ago, I shared a podcast episode called “The Importance of Leading with Confidence.” In it, I shared my story of how I landed on the phrase ‘leading with confidence’ for this podcast. We always say that this podcast is designed to help you “Embrace your gifts and lead with confidence.”
In that episode, I shared with you some of the reasons I think confidence is important as well as my definition of leading with confidence, which is my confident leadership framework: love - live - lead.
With that framework, we know that the source of our confidence is God’s love, and once you know that you can live your life with purpose, and then you can step into leading others.
It’s been quite some time since that episode, so I wanted to revisit this conversation and bring you a slightly different take on this: What Confident Leaders Look Like.
If you’re ready to take it a step further and you want to dig deeper into how to become a confident leader, then be sure to check out my Confident Leader Catalyst course.

Why We Need Honest Conversations, Critical Thinking, and Humble Theology with Joel Muddamalle, PhD [Ep. 194]

Why We Need Honest Conversations, Critical Thinking, and Humble Theology with Joel Muddamalle, PhD [Ep. 194]

Have you ever struggled to engage in conversations about hot topics online? Have you ever wondered how to stay humble in your theology while still holding onto the primary truths of the Gospel? In this episode, you’ll learn about this and so much more. Episode 194’s guest is the first official male guest: Joel Muddamalle, Director of Theology and research at Proverbs 31 Ministries. This episode follows Joel’s leadership journey and how God led him to work in a predominantly female ministry, Proverbs 31 Ministries.
We also discuss why we need to stay humble in our theology as leaders, how we can learn to see multiple sides of an issue, and what we should do when attempting to have conversations about theological differences. We will also hit on the issue of deconstruction and how this relates to our need as Christians to continually evaluate what we believe in light of the Truth of Scripture.

Discerning When to Follow (or Unfollow) a Leader

Discerning When to Follow (or Unfollow) a Leader

Have you ever seen or heard a Christian in the public sphere do something you didn’t agree with?
Sometimes our first instinct is to completely unfollow that person and never consume anything they’re putting out in the world again. It can be hard to know when to unfollow a leader completely, or when to just take a step back from their voice and work.
If you’ve ever struggled with discerning if and when to unfollow a leader, this episode will bring you clarity as you work to decide your next best step.

All About Starting and Leading Small Groups

All About Starting and Leading Small Groups

Have you ever wondered how to lead a small group well? Or maybe you’ve been asked to be a small group leader, but you didn’t feel equipped to do so. So many of our listeners wonder how to lead small groups well, so we have dedicated an entire episode on tips and tricks for leading a small group with intention and purpose.
Many churches have what they call small groups. They could also be called Bible studies, or sometimes just “groups” or life groups.
These are usually a group of people who are gathering together around a particular topic or study. Often this is where deeper relationships can be formed than what happens in the normal weekly services at a church.
Many churches consider small groups to be a part of their overall discipleship process because people are doing life together in the context of small groups.
