When Failure Strikes
Failure – we don’t like it; we don’t want it; we go to great lengths in trying to hide it, to ignore it, or to rationalize it.
In doing so, we resist or miss the opportunity to be conformed to God’s image in the midst of such failure or setback.
God used Moses’ failure to reshape him being a self-dependent, self-controlled man. He also used him to be a God-dependent, God-controlled man, who God could be use to expand God's kingdom on earth.
How did God accomplish such reshaping? By signing Moses up for a master’s degree in character development, which degree consisted of two primary courses:
(i) advanced obscurity; and
(ii) remedial waiting.
Are you willing "to wait in obscurity" for God to do God's work in you?
God's 4 Promises of Healing and Restoration
God is the God who saves us, frees us, re-purposes us, and gives us a new God-identity so that we can play our role in God's story. #HillChurchMcminnville Exodus 6:6-7, 2 Corinthians and Romans
What if God intended to use the year 2020 as a vessel to bring us back into 20/20 vision? We are children of LIGHT and SIGHT.
We don't have to settle in darkness, God wants to give us eyes to see what He's doing. #HillChurchMcminnville
Mark 10:46-52, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8, Ephesians 1:18-21, Romans 8:37
Small-Group Discussion Questions: (3-5 questions for groups)
If you lost your eyesight, what would miss seeing most?
In what ways has 2020 led you into darkness? What has been the greatest challenge for you and/or your family in this time?
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8. How do we actively live out the commands Paul writes in verses 6-8?
With clear eyes & full hearts: What do you want God to do for you?
What can you do to begin moving forward with 20/20 vision?
Christmas Eve 2020
There was no human initiative whatsoever in Mary’s conception. Mary’s conception was a God-thing; it was God initiated – pure and simple. Thus, the Virgin Birth is a sign of God’s saving grace; a sign that our salvation is by God’s grace alone – not by anything that we do.
The New Humanity
Do you want to live a “Holy Communion life” where we are broken and poured out for the sake of others so that they – our son, daughter, etc. -- can experience and live with God’s hope, peace, love and joy now and forever?
Colossians 1:19-20; Ephesians 2:14-16
Love Like Crazy
What does it mean to be a forerunner for Jesus? We'll take a look at the life of John the Baptist to understand this call.
Just as John was the forerunner for Jesus' ministry on earth, we are the forerunners for His return. As a result, it is time to sound the alarm, to gear up, get ready, and love like crazy. #HillchurchMcMinnville
