What’s at Stake in City Council’s New District 1 Race

What’s at Stake in City Council’s New District 1 Race

Portlanders are electing a brand-new, expanded City Council this fall, and the candidates are flooding in: More than 80 people have already said they’re hoping to run for one of the 12 open seats. So this month, we’re going to help you make sense of the race. Today on City Cast Portland, host Claudia Meza is looking at who’s running in East Portland’s District 1. Oregonian City Hall reporter Shane Dixon Kavanaugh is here to help us make sense of the crowded field.
Correction note: Shane incorrectly stated he lived in District 2. All of Montavilla is in District 3, it did not get split. You can find your voting district here.

The Story of a Stranger-Than-Fiction Portland Crime

The Story of a Stranger-Than-Fiction Portland Crime

When Dan Brophy, a popular teacher at the Oregon Culinary Institute, was found murdered in 2018, it became one of the most astounding true crime stories Oregon had seen in decades. The big twist: his wife, Nancy, was ultimately found guilty of his murder. But Nancy was also a suspense romance novelist, and some of the details of the crime appeared almost forecasted in her fiction. Today we’re talking with Heidi Joy Tretheway, host of the new podcast “Happily Never After: Dan and Nancy.” We’ll talk with her about the ways fact and fiction blended together in this unexpected saga.

Excellent podcast, fostering community, great hosts and reporters

I have been listening to City Cast Portland podcast most everday for the last year. Claudia’s and John’s voices, and their laughs, are with me as I’m walking my dog, doing dishes, chillin’ outside, etc. This is the must-listen podcast for anyone in the Portland area. I recommend it to all my friends. All the VIP topics are covered, as well as things I’d never otherwise think about or know about going on locally. This podcast fosters the community, engages us, educates us and has fun concurrently and is a major asset to locals.
