Previously, we looked at how your relationship with your parents — and more specifically, your acknowledgement of their flaws — is essential to claiming self-authority. Ignoring reality is dangerous. In the short-term it gives us relief and removes the discomfort of non optimal experiences. But in the long-term, ignoring reality makes us incapable of recognizing what’s actually real. The job of any adult is to reparent themselves, and in order to do that effectively you have to recognize where the deficit is.
