Weird Science vs Ex Machina: Part 1

Weird Science vs Ex Machina: Part 1

It’s a week of weird and yeah... just weird. The sexual side of the science world takes the reigns, as in the red corner we have the absolutely mad, and aptly named, ‘Weird Science’ (1985). The tale is as old as time: geeky boys want cool girls. Yet Weird Science has a twist, as these teenagers create a virtual woman using a computer and pick all their favourite ‘aspects’ of women they fancy in order to make their very own dream female.
While in the blue corner, Ex Machina (2014) follows Caleb, a programmer at a search engine company. Caleb is tasked by his billionaire boss to assess whether his humanoid robot is sentient. Cue – you guessed it –Caleb falling in love with the robot woman.

Don’t bother with the actual film

I often find myself listening to Clash, thinking that I should take some time to watch the films being discussed. But then I sit down to watch the film and I’m disappointed, only to realize that the film is nowhere near as entertaining as hearing this tremendous trio. But not only am I entertained, I am informed of a rich history for practically every film. Clash is my favorite film pod and it’s not even remotely close.

Willow episode!

Dddaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!! Omg pronounce the names of the characters correctly, please! For goodness sake. Had to turn it off when Fin Razel was pronounced “Razeeeel.” Willow happens to be my favorite childhood movie and the irreverence was so hard. I’m a strong person and can hear a different opinion, but my GOD, please don’t bastardize character names! Sheesh!

Don’t be stupid, give it a listen!

Vicky, Chris and Alex always brighten my day with their authentic friendship and brilliant insight into movies. Living in Japan, and not being able to go back home, it’s nice to listen in to a fun chat that’s equal parts movie deep dives and general piss-taking. Listen to it on a long train ride or during a quick bath wank!
