Today’s episode is with husband and wife duo Christopher Worth and Camila Soriano and founders of the new-to-market tequila seltzer.
You may not know this about me, but I’m a margarita girl but HATE how sugary they can be. I swear it’s the sugar that actually causes the hangover! So if you’re like me and love having a few drinks but don’t like to feel weighed down and heavy after and want to sip on something a bit cleaner this holiday season - this episode is for you!
I got a chance to try them this fall, and you’ll hear all about my favorite flavor during the episode.
I always love hearing how people get to where they are. There’s always a story and every journey looks different, but the one thing that they all have in common is following a passion and or an interest one step at a time. It’s kind of interesting how life unfolds...I mean Camilla used to work in finance!
But after successfully creating delicious mixers with the American Cocktail Co, the two set out on a journey to reimagine the RTD category and develop the first tequila seltzer made with organic juice and free of added sugars, natural flavorings, essences and corn syrup (unlike most other seltzers on the market). The result: Volley, the ready-to-go tequila beverage crafted with only three clean ingredients: 100% blue agave tequila, sparkling water and organic juice.
Another thing I love about Volley is their dedication to being a product for good - with outdoor sustainability and conservation near and dear to both Christopher and Camila’s hearts, Volley will also be hosting beach cleanups and outdoor educational events in partnership with Leave No Trace (LNT), a non-profit that provides resources so every person can protect + enjoy our natural world.
We chat about:
They share how their suspicion and displeasure with the current market for canned seltzer products inspired Volley - if we only knew what we were actually drinking
Some pretty shocking facts about the food industry when it comes to labeling
Camila talks about the book called ‘The Dorito Effect’ which began cluing her into the word natural, and how many food and beverage products use that word to disguise other ingredients like artificial flavors.
The challenges of creating an organically certified product and starting a business
The advantages of developing the product at home
What they’ve learned about running a business and being a good leader including advice on how to stay humble, accepting feedback - positive or negative, and the importance of asking questions and learning from people who are experienced in the fields you need help in.
Trusting each other as well as working together as a couple, and the advantages and challenges that come along with that.
And of course, our favorite Volley flavors
