EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS IN RELATIONSHIPS

EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS IN RELATIONSHIPS

GUESS WHO'S BACK, BACK AGAIN!? We are! Swear we didn't fall off the face of the Earth. 🌎
Nearly half of adults experience a mental illness at least once in their lifetime. Research and practical experiences tell us that mental illness can cause a person to have decreased quality of life, decreased productivity and employment, and even impaired physical health. A mental illness—including post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and alcoholism—can also affect a person’s relationships. Honestly, there’s probably no relationship more affected by mental illness than the intimate relationship between partners.
The good news is that it’s possible to be in a healthy, loving, and long-term relationship with someone who has a mental illness. If this is relevant to you, be aware of the unique challenges you and your partner may face, and utilize resources and strategies that will help you grow and nurture your relationship. LISTEN IN ON THIS WEEK'S EPISODE ON HOW MENTAL ISSUES COULD EFFECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP.

    Toxic Relationships vs Mental Health

    Toxic Relationships vs Mental Health

How do you define something or someone that’s toxic? A toxic person or relationship is typically described as one that makes you feel unsupported, misunderstood, demeaned, or attacked. A toxic relationship will often make you feel worse in general or about yourself. On the other hand, a healthy relationship will make you feel better, more secure, and overall joyful. Toxic people can leave you feeling down, are able to suck the energy right out of you, and can even mess with your ability to create new bonds long term.

But how do you spot the signs of a toxic relationship? Tune into this week's episode to find out how to spot the signs, how to handle it and how to recover once the relationship is over.

    MENTAL HEALTH & RELATIONSHIPS

    MENTAL HEALTH & RELATIONSHIPS

The Mental Health Foundation defines relationships as ‘the way in which two or more people are connected, or the state of being connected’. Relationships include the intimate relationships we have with our partners, those we form with our parents, siblings and grandparents, and those we form socially with our friends, work colleagues, teachers, healthcare professionals and community.

Relationships are one of the most important aspects of our lives, yet we can often forget just how crucial our connections with other people are for our physical and mental health. People who are more socially connected to family, friends, or their community are happier, physically healthier, and live longer - with fewer mental health problems than people who are less well connected. It’s not just the number of friends you have, and it’s not whether or not you’re in a committed relationship, but it’s the quality of your close relationships that matters. As a society and as individuals, we have to prioritize building and maintaining good relationships and tackling the barriers to forming them. Extensive evidence shows Having close, positive relationships can give us a purpose and sense of belonging.

    PETS & RELATIONSHIPS

Are you a dog person? That’s a dumb question—who doesn’t love dogs, right? According to new research, we’re all crazy about dogs and it’s proven that most of the time we prefer them to our actual romantic partners 👀 But what happens when your dog doesn't like your partner? What's next?

Okay, so here’s the problem. You love your dog. And you also love your boyfriend or girlfriend, but your dog has other ideas. You just can’t get the two of them to warm up to each other. If the problem is just disinterest, that’s not a biggie. If there’s a bit of tension between the two of them, that’s probably also not a huge issue. But what if it’s outright hostility? As in someone could possibly get hurt. So what are you gonna do? Obviously, you want the two living beings that you care about most to get along. Can it happen? FIND OUT IN THIS WEEK'S EPISODE! Grab your snack, your drinkity-drank & LET'S GET INTO IT ..
