It's a fantastic presentation and both the athletes and coaches who were fortunate to learn from Alex.

And as always, please email me if you have questions, comments, or advice regarding the podcast. -
023 - Speed Work: What does it mean?
In this episode, Jay Johnson explains why he doesn't use the term speed work. He goes into detail about how he thinks coaches should use the term speed. It's his contention that the term 'race pace work' can often be used to assign training to athletes.
Check out Jay's other podcast, Running with Coach Jay, to hear his views on why this term is also problematic for adult runners.

The Coaching Runners Podcast
Coach Jay Johnson’s content has dramatically impacted the way we approach training our high school T&F and XC runners by reinforcing the things we were already doing well and challenging us to rethink the areas where we struggled. The podcast is well-planned and edited nicely.
Thank you
I look forward to each new episode that comes out. Great podcast!
Indispensable for high school and youth coaches
I am a veteran coach who discovered Jay Johnson’s resources a few years ago, and I am grateful I did. His book, articles, clinics, and videos are the best, and the podcast helps tie everything together. These podcasts offer concise distillations of Jay’s work in bringing together some of the best minds in coaching high school runners. Jay understands how complicated it is to be a high school coach, the balance between academics and athletics, and the need to somehow individualize training for diverse ranges of age, experience, and athleticism. The podcast format is great, because it’s a time-efficient way to absorb these nuggets of coaching wisdom. I like to listen during my commutes to and from school, and I’m always psyched to incorporate what I learn into the next practice or helping my kids be at their best in an upcoming meet. Enthusiastic 5 stars!
