Every episode explores a variety of questions that for me are delightful because one question can interrupt the next. Interruption like detour leads to uncanny discovery There are particular episodes that reveal the hybrid quality of Rachel’s thinking--so many that take a speaker off guard enough to let something slip--and it's this delightful blend of personal & craft-based questions that keeps me nodding as I cook and listen to the conversation. For now I'm living overseas, a poet, artist, single mother etc,. so these podcasts have kept me such good company and taking notes as I work away from communities in the U.S. that shaped my work. There are star episodes, but I especially love episode 50--as Yanyi turns the table around, asking Rachel to fill space and explore what inspired her to make the podcast and keep on going. And for the record: her books were already on my shelf before this podcast!

Totally Effing Cupcakes

Immersing. Open. Engaged. Bitter. Keen. Umami. Perspicacious. And cetera. Rachel manages to braid both the intimate, microscope perspectives and crow’s eye view with her relaxed self-aware and caring approach. Conscientious yet unafraid, the conversations fly as if of themselves like spears but never fear the prospect of the inchworm’s crawl.
I look forward to each and every new episode. Discover new poetry—be inspired to revisit the halls through which you thought you had already passed.
6/5 sincerely marked stars. I go totally effing cupcakes over each episode—how couldn’t one?

Grateful for depth and inspiration

This podcast never disappoints with conversations that focus on the poets/artists, their work, creative process, lives. For me they lead to reflections, inspiration, laughter and nodding in recognition of creative community. Thank you, thank you, Rachel and your production team. And thank you Commonplace patrons.
