Are you struggling with the fear of public speaking even though you’re generally confident as an experienced and knowledgeable professional or entrepreneur? Does your imposter syndrome kick in when all eyes are on you? Do you find it difficult to speak with authority and assertiveness in meetings and presentations? If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place!

The reason I know the feeling so well is that I used to be terrified of public speaking myself. As a software engineer turned high-level manager turned entrepreneur, it took me years to finally overcome my public speaking fears.

And I can tell you right now, it had nothing to do with common advice like pushing through fear or practicing endlessly. Instead, I developed genuine speaking confidence rather than “pretend” confidence, and I started coaching others on how to do the same.

The Confidence Within podcast is a weekly run of bite-sized, digestible public speaking confidence tips, strategies, and expert-led career and business advice to help you outdo your long-sought professional goals and develop unshakeable confidence within.

Why ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ Doesn’t Apply to Public Speaking

Why ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ Doesn’t Apply to Public Speaking

Welcome to another episode of the Confidence Within podcast. In this episode, we will challenge the well-known phrase "practice makes perfect" and examine its relevance to public speaking.
While this saying is often used to refer to developing muscle memory in activities such as playing an instrument or learning a sport, it doesn't necessarily hold true for public speaking. Despite years of practice, many individuals still struggle with public speaking and experience anxiety and discomfort.
So, what's the reason behind this? We'll explore this topic by tweaking the familiar phrase a bit. Instead of "practice makes perfect," I propose that "practice makes permanent." When you repeatedly practice speaking with fear and a lack of confidence, you're reinforcing that negative experience. This, in turn, cements a negative association with public speaking, which is not what we want.
In this episode, I’ll share with you the essential elements to address first to start practicing the right way. Tune in now to discover how to improve your public speaking skills… the right way!

A Journey to Finding Voice and Confidence: Client Spotlight Interview with Stefanie Cabaniss

Stefanie Cabaniss, a former student of the Brilliant Speakers Academy, is the featured guest in this episode of the Confidence Within podcast. In under two years, Stefanie has gone from being intimidated by public speaking to hosting her own podcast and founding a coaching business.
Stefanie loved public speaking as a child, so losing that enjoyment to nervousness later in life was difficult for her.
During our conversation, Stefanie shares her inspiration for enhancing her public speaking abilities and the toughest obstacles she faced in overcoming her limiting beliefs and fears. She talks about her background prior to enrolling in Brilliant Speakers Academy, the impact the program has had on her life, her favorite aspects of it, and her current perspective on speaking in front of people.
Stefanie’s involvement in Brilliant Speakers Academy was driven by a larger purpose than just overcoming her fear of public speaking. Following the loss of a dear friend, she sought to spread the hope she found and inspire others that life goes on after loss. She offers grief support for Christian women through her podcast, coaching, and writing.

Public Speaking Tips for Non-native English speakers

Public Speaking Tips for Non-native English speakers

Are you a non-native English speaker struggling with public speaking? You're not alone. But what if I told you that the key to being a brilliant communicator has nothing to do with perfecting your vocabulary, grammar, or accent?
Many people who speak publicly with confidence and authority are non-native English speakers, so ask yourself if your lack of confidence when speaking is truly a language barrier issue or if it lies deeper within your inner confidence. While improving your vocabulary, grammar, and accent is helpful, it's not the key to becoming a brilliant communicator.
In this episode of the Confidence Within podcast, we explore how developing inner confidence can transform you into a powerful and engaging speaker, regardless of your language abilities.
I also share practical tips that will help you be better understood when English isn’t your first language.
Don't miss out on this valuable advice - tune in now!

How to Speak With Confidence And Authority When You're an Introvert

How to Speak With Confidence And Authority When You're an Introvert

I got a lot of questions after Episode 5 aired (where I interviewed an introverted entrepreneur and my client, Roos Vos). You asked me how to become a confident, compelling, and captivating speaker when your “introversion” gets in the way.
This episode is dedicated to all my fellow introverts. I see you, I hear you, I get you. Because being an introvert myself, I’ve had to deal with all the challenges and advantages of introversion my entire life.
A lot of people think that it’s impossible to be a confident public speaker when you’re an introvert simply because of all the perceived limitations, but they can’t be further from the truth. Many incredible public speakers are introverts.
And to anyone who needs to hear this: Introverts are NOT hermits, they are NOT anti-social, and they are NOT always shy. Being an introvert simply means you have a different way of draining and recharging your energy than extroverts - and this does not have to hold you back in terms of public speaking.
In fact, introverts have certain “gifts” that can help them overcome the fear of public speaking and show up as the confident and brilliant professionals that they are!
I talk about this at length in this episode of my Confidence Within podcast. If you’re an introvert, this episode is for you!

Overcoming Self-Doubt and Adversity: Interview with America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.

Overcoming Self-Doubt and Adversity: Interview with America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.

On this episode of the Confidence Within podcast, I'm joined by American jazz singer and America's Got Talent season 6 winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.
Landau's journey to success began with a difficult upbringing in Logan, West Virginia. He experienced homelessness at 19 and had several low points in his life. Nevertheless, Landau had always sung as a way to escape the challenges of his environment, and little did he know, his extraordinary voice would eventually take him places.
Landau auditioned for America's Got Talent at the age of 35 and blew away the judges and audience with his singing. As a result of this experience, Landau realized he had been denying himself love and appreciation for most of his life due to a lack of self-esteem.
Since Landau overcame his fear of being picked on and bullied by auditioning for America's Got Talent, he has performed all over the world, raised millions for charity, and is now able to make a living doing what he loves. Landau's advice for others is to be yourself, treat others how you would like to be treated, and pay it forward to those around you.
    Key Highlights:
The story of Landau's upbringing, his journey to becoming a professional singer, and how he eventually achieved success doing what he loves The qualities that set Landau apart from the competition on America's Got Talent How Landau's experience on America's Got Talent helped him to build his self-confidence The ways in which Landau is using his success to benefit his community
