Maria Torres – Acupuncture as an Example: How Ancient Practices are Helping us Heal Contemporary Wounds

Aired Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST

As we evolve, many of us seek to truly heal ourselves after we’ve experienced the aftermath of trauma. Oftentimes we find that traditional medical practices may excel at addressing physical or emotional symptoms, but fail to heal the damage that has been done at a deeper level within us. Join Jennifer as she discusses the role of acupuncture in today’s healing process with Maria Torres, a licensed acupuncturist at the Art of Healing.

Bio: Maria Torres, L.Ac., Dipl. Ac., MSOM

Maria is a native of Miami, FL, who has recently made GA her new home. Growing up in a large family food was always a unifying element. Maria learned at an early age the healing power of food and the benefits of traditional healing. One of her earliest memories of this was watching her grandparents prepare herbal teas and remedies from herbs and plants that were collected from their backyard each time anyone was not feeling well.

This ignited a 20 year career in the healthcare field specializing in food and nutrition. Maria worked in hospitals, retirement communities, assisted living facilities and nursing homes where she combined her passion for helping people with the healing properties of herbs and foods.

Maria was initially drawn to acupuncture after part of her face became paralyzed due to a condition typically caused due to high levels of stress, known as Bell’s Palsy. Through acupuncture Maria experienced an accelerated, full recovery. It was this that inspired her to pursue a career as an acupuncture physician.

Maria earned her Masters in Oriental Medicine from Acupuncture Massage College in Miami, FL. She is a board certified acupuncturist licensed to practice in Georgia and Florida.

Prior to joining Art of Healing, she held a private practice in Florida treating patients with a variety of conditions including chronic pain, injuries, infertility, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, addictions, weight management, PTSD and more.

In her practice, Maria also incorporated Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Facial rejuvenation with cosmetic acupuncture is a healthy way to reduce the signs of aging and promote overall health.

When Maria is not at the clinic, she enjoys cooking healing foods, traveling, DIY projects, and spending quality time with her family.

Maria is excited to be part of the Art Of Healing team and looks forward to helping you reach your wellness goals.

Beth Houser Coughlin – What is True Healthcare? Are We Really Caring for Our Health?

    Aired Thursday, 29 August 2019, 3:00 PM EST / 12:00 PM PST

It is troubling to many of us to consider that the health of our economy is dependent upon the illness of our people. How do we regain our true power and well-being so that we aren’t at the mercy of a system that is financially incentivized to keep us sick? Healthcare innovation is an extraordinary gift when it saves our lives and/or changes our lives for the better. As wonderful as it is, however, we can’t always rely on the healthcare system to save us. Join Jennifer as she discusses multiple ways to empower ourselves to experience true wellness with Beth Houser Coughlin, M.S.Ed, Living Foods Institute at Tula Health.

    About:

Beth Houser Coughlin, M.S.Ed, Owner/Director of The Living Foods Institute at Tula Health

Beth is owner and director of The Living Foods Institute at Tula Health. Early in life Beth learned the value of good health and natural healing from the balance of her medical Dr father and yoga teacher mother. Beth started her professional career as a Health and English teacher at a school for children with special needs, later serving as principal of the school. In the early 2000s, she left the school to open a yoga and natural healing facility, which she owned and operated until her father was diagnosed with a terminal brain disease, seven years later. Her concern for her father led her to return to graduate school and delve more deeply into her research about neuroplasticity, brain healing and the gut-brain connection. Her master’s thesis focused on the specific impact of yoga on neurological healing. She looks forward to the continued growth of The Living Foods Institute at Tula Health, eventual opening of new locations, and the opportunity to bring balanced natural healing to a broader market.
