FLORIDA CRAFT BEER DAY

On Feb. 15th, 1897, the Sunshine State saw the opening of its first locally owned and operated brewery in Ybor City. Florida Brewing Co was the first brewery located in the southeastern United States and served to quench the thirsts of hundreds of cigar rollers working in the area. While the brewery is no longer in operation, it is the starting point of a long and proud brewing tradition that you are helping to continue.

To that end, we would like to recognize Feb. 15th, every year as ‘Florida Craft Beer Day’, a day where we all can celebrate the economic, cultural, and societal impact that brewing has made in the Sunshine State.

Craft Life has opened the doors to host this 4th annual event recognized by and blessed by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn!

WHY IS THIS DAY IMPORTANT?

GREAT BEER
Good beer is hard to come by, well at least in other states! This historic day kicked off a movement that would eventually aid in leading craft beer to the point it is today, nearly 7,000+ breweries nationwide!

PAYING JOBS
This day should be celebrated for the millions of economic and personal jobs the industry fulfills around the world! To date, beer is responsible for over 2,000,000 jobs!

GOOD PEOPLE
Beer brings people together. Sporting events, outdoor activities, nightlife and more. People love to enjoy beer. The economics don't lie, the beer industry is worth $111.4 billion to our economy.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN TO FLORIDA?
In the state of Florida alone, the total impact of beer measures to some extremely staggering numbers. The Beer industry also, loves to give back. The following statistics are from the a recent NBWA report.

Florida beer is responsible for:
22,483 Florida Jobs
$1,265,029,242 in wages and salaries
$655,155,163 in Federal and state taxes paid.

The history of Florida-owned breweries began in 1896 with the incorporation of the Florida Brewing Company. Founded by former Ybor Cigar Company (Cigar Industrialists) bookkeeper Eduardo Manrara, along with co-founders E.W. Codington, Hugo Schwab, and A.C. Moore. The brewery had a direct water link to Government Spring and a ready-made clientele of cigar factory workers who lived and played in Ybor City long after their long cigar rolling shifts had ended. The official opening of the Florida Brewing Company was on February 15th, 1897.
Florida Brewing Co was the first brewery located in the southeastern United States and served to quench the thirsts of hundreds of cigar rollers working in the area.
Largest supplier of Beer to Cuba, Modeled after Castle Brewery in Johannesburg, South Africa
It was estimated that 400 barrels (1 barrel = 31 gallons of Beer) of their signature lager was consumed during that opening party.
At its height, Florida Brewing produced 20,000 gallons of beer a year. The brewery supplied beer to U.S. troops on their way to and while in Cuba fighting the Spanish-American War Serving Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders on their victory trip home.
While the brewery is no longer in operation, it served as the starting point of a long and proud brewing tradition that you are helping to continue.
We recognize Feb. 15th, 2017 the second annual ‘Florida Craft Beer Day’, a day where we all can celebrate The economic, cultural, and societal impact that brewing has made in the Sunshine State.

Star Wars: Another New Movie & TV Series Recently Announced Surrounding the Knights of the Old Republic

With the Skywalker saga completed, Disney is looking for somewhere new to go with Star Wars. There is no shortage of TV shows coming out on Disney+. The Mandalorian featuring Baby Yoda is on track for a season 2 this fall.
What will the new ‘Star Wars’ movie and television series be about?
Disney is working on a Knights of the Old Republic show as well as a movie, according to Fandomwire.

The series and film will follow the storyline of the video game. It will be set 3,956 years before A New Hope when Darth Malek and Sith Lord Revan ruled. The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary refers to Revan, confirming that he is indeed canon.
The dictionary describes precisely how the sith troopers form into legions, which are each named after an ancient Sith Lord. A notable legion is the 3rd: the Revan Legion.
While the announcement did not come from Disney yet, sources believe it to be true. The next Star Wars movie and series will be based on the Knights of the Old Republic. All there is to do now is wait (and hope) that it is true.
