Praying the Psalms --- Psalm 51
A "penitential" psalm. Yeesh. Psalm 51 exposes some of the rawness of what we can bring to the Lord in a world of sin. While painful and uncomfortable to talk about, it feels so REAL, doesn't it? The need for confession and redemption amidst such depravity. And we can't miss that it's a psalm of David, written against the backdrop of his most notorious crimes. It's a difficult Psalm to pray. But maybe it's needed more than ever when so much is broken. It's a cry for mercy; an acknowledgement of sin. but also, throughout it, a hope for grace.
