1: Introduction to Create and Creativity

1: Introduction to Create and Creativity

Creation and creativity is not owned by artists and writers.

Yes, not everyone is an artist, but everyone is a creator. A surgeon uses his hands just as deftly as an artist does on her painting and palette. Creation’s for everyone. We all create in different ways, but knowing you are creative is empowering, if you embrace it. In this intro John talks about what the podcast is about and why he started it. Create.

2: Creativity and What is a Creator?

Creation and creativity are one of the most significant forces on this planet.

We are all creative beings. We are all creators. If we bring this into our lives we make this planet a better place. Trust this. When you start to live a creative life it has an effect on you and all those around you. It brings joy, the joy of living, of being alive, of being in appreciation of what surrounds us, inspires us. Become a creator. Open the door towards creativity. Create.

    3. Walls and Creativity

    3. Walls and Creativity

Walls are a powerful metaphor what leads us away from Imagination and creativity.

Artists, writers, actors, inventors, academics, are no different from every one else. We’re all different, but we all have one thing in common: Walls. All creators suffer. At times they can’t create. They make mistakes. They have off days. Walls. What do they do? They accept they’re having an off day, what someone once called an inspiring dry patch, and keep working anyway. They know the off day is a wall, and that it will eventually disappear. And the wall of walls? Fear. We all have it. It’s insidious. I have it. I’ve known many very successful creators. They have it too. Their fears are the same as mine, as yours.

    4: Family, Friends and Villains

Villains, and even family and friends can be Walls away from the Imagination and creativity.

Projection and expectation is normal in every culture but it’s wrong-headed. Creation is about doing what you love. Being happy is about doing what you love, not what your family or friends love. Just because one person settled into a way of living in the world doesn’t mean they can subject their kids or friends to the same pressure. Create.

    5. Imagination and Creativity

    5. Imagination and Creativity

Creativity can be a wall to the Imagination because the very word has been often co-opted for negative uses.

We are creative when we imagine. When we imagine, inspiration comes. When we imagine we create. We use the imagination to create. We don’t use creativity to create. Creativity is objective, what we see someone doing, creating. And innovation is when we better it, both being things in the tangible world. The action of creating though, that’s imagining, new theories, characters, worlds. Creativity is imprisoned by reality, imagination is free, released from the unreal. Create by using the Imagination.

    6. School, Education, Imagination and Creativity

    6. School, Education, Imagination and Creativity

School and education are very often major Walls away from the Imagination and creativity.

People are educated to stay in the box. Society’s educational system is based on this broken model, that of the mathematical mind created during the utilitarian Industrial Revolution Dickens so wonderfully satirizes in his novels. Don’t let education or schooling be a Wall away from Imagination. For the most part education doesn’t teach you creative intelligence, how to create what you want to create. You want to educate yourself in what you want to create? Don’t give up. Learn by doing.

Intimate creativity

Fanning’s podcast is not telling you how to create—instead, brilliantly, this is a series of meditations on the struggle to create, on the challenges of thinking about creativity. It is a wondering and a wandering about ideas, and is a must listen for anyone with an interest to write, or paint, or make, or think...

Thoughtful & Inspiring

John shares both experience and research with thoughtful and inspiring reflections about creativity, imagination and strategies for a truly communal application of processes often thought to be limited to a select audience. I find discussions about co-opting the creative process to be particularly compelling and I look forward to continuance of these and other related issues and meditations.
