From Survival Mode to Sustainable Wellness: A Chat with Lauren Bohl

In this episode of the Around the Campfire podcast, I’m joined by Lauren Bohl — a functional medicine certified health coach, occupational therapist, and mom of two teens — for a powerful conversation about what it really looks like to prioritize your own well-being as a mom. Lauren shares her personal journey through motherhood, career pivots, and burnout, and how those experiences ultimately led her to support other moms in building healthier, more grounded lives. We dig into what functional medicine actually is, the difference between self-care and self-comfort, and why stress management is often the most important — and most overlooked — starting point when it comes to feeling better in our bodies and our lives. We talk about: How functional medicine and health coaching can help moms feel more in control of their health The surprising truth about balance (hint: it’s never perfect and that’s okay) Tangible ways to reduce stress and reconnect with what matters The difference between comfort and care, and why both are valid Why building connection — with yourself and your family — is at the heart of everything Whether you’re feeling stretched thin, stuck in survival mode, or just ready for a reset, this conversation is a reminder that your wellness matters too — and taking care of yourself is not just okay, it’s essential. The Importance of Community and Inclusion: A chat with Koryn Heisler

In this episode, I’m chatting with the incredible Koryn Heisler, founder of This World’s Ours Centre in Vancouver. Koryn is a former teacher and a mom of three kiddos, two of who are on the autism spectrum. We talk about what led her to start this amazing space, how it’s grown from a big dream into a vibrant, inclusive community hub, and how it's meeting a much-needed gap for neurodivergent kiddos and their families. We dive into the challenges families often face navigating support systems, the heartbreak of exclusion from camps and programs, and the magic of building a space where all kids—and parents—are welcomed just as they are. Koryn shares what balance looks like for her family, how she’s prioritized self-care, and what it was like taking that first bold step to claim time for herself by coming to Mom Camp. Koryn shares how attending Camp gave her the space she didn’t know she needed—to reflect, reconnect with herself, and realign her priorities before opening the Centre. She talks about the clarity it gave her, the community she found, and how it truly became a turning point not just for her business, but for her family. We talk about the importance of community, the power of creating space for parents to connect, and what legacy means to her. It’s a beautiful and emotional conversation, and I’m so grateful Koryn joined me to share her story.
