Welcome to the CSBP Grow Better podcast.
We developed this podcast to help share knowledge with growers on leading crop nutrition, sustainable agriculture and other relevant local and global issues impacting the agricultural industry.
The role of hockey in regional WA
In this hockey-themed episode, Grey Johnston is joined by Hockeyroo Penny Squibb, former Hockeyroo Ashleigh Nelson, and Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross to talk about the role of hockey in regional Western Australia.
Why is WA such a strong breeding ground for our hockey stars? What’s special about the hockey community in regional WA? How did Ashleigh and Penny go from country towns to the Olympics and the World Cup?
The group also chats about CSBP’s partnership with Hockey WA and the CSBP Hockey festivals that are being held in Narrogin, Bruce Rock, Northam, and Geraldton in June 2022.

Identifying opportunities with plant sampling
In this episode James Easton, CSBP Senior Agronomist joins CSBP’s Grey Johnston to discuss how to identify opportunities with plant sampling.
What circumstances would make plant sampling a good idea, and what opportunities are available this season? How can growers select the most accurate places to sample? What are the soil trends and deficiencies we are seeing in WA?
Nitrogen investment can be wasted if it is applied in areas where there are other limiting factors and plant sampling can identify better economic opportunities.
Plant analysis monitors nutrient uptake during the early stages of crop growth and can be a useful decision support tool for growers.
Designed to complement soil analysis, NUlogic plant analysis helps determine fertiliser requirements by monitoring nutrient uptake in crops during the season, and provides an accurate measure of trace element status in soils.

Long-term effects of N and K in Yuna
In this episode, Account Manager Luigi Moreschi joins Grey Johnston to discuss nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) strategies following soil amelioration, and the results from the CSBP trial at Yuna last year.
In 2021, we started a long-term trial at Yuna, looking at the long-term effects of N and K rates on ameliorated soils. What results did we see at the trial? What rates of K and N do we need, particularly with the improved yield expectations of these ameliorated paddocks? What are the key findings growers can take away from the trial?

Nitrogen decisions 2022
Listen to Scott Nelson, CSBP Central Sales Support Manager, and our host, Grey Johnston, CSBP Advice, Insight & Marketing Manager, chat about managing nitrogen requirements this season.
What are the key nitrogen decisions WA growers are making right now? What factors could be considered when planning in-season top-up nitrogen and what nutritional tools are available to help growers make decisions?
Urea and Flexi-N global markets update
Hear from Rusty Burke, CSBP Supply Chain Manager and CSBP’s Grey Johnston, Advice, Insight & Marketing Manager (our podcast host), on global factors impacting the urea and Flexi-N market.
What global factors have been impacting Flexi-N and urea prices? How is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine impacting CSBP and WA growers? What should growers be aware of when making top-up nitrogen decisions and what is the outlook for the market moving forward?
