a podcast about fictional father figures
91: The Last One
It's been a long road, and we've all learned a lot about dads—fictional and otherwise. merritt wraps things up for the second anniversary and the last episode of dadfeelings.
90: The Prestige Dads
merritt just doesn't watch a lot of prestige TV, so this week we brought in expert Eric Thurm to cover a history of dark television fathers all the way from The Sopranos to Breaking Bad.
We're going under the sea this week to look at Albert Brooks' depiction of the heroic dad Marlin in 2003's Finding Nemo.
88: The Lego Batman Movie
Yes, we did Batman way back, but since then a film has come along that perfectly encapsulates Batman's whole deal as a man and a dad—and who would have guessed that it'd be a Lego movie?
87: Patrick Klepek
Patrick Klepek guests to discuss his real-life dadxperience and the perils of making friends as a parent.
86b: Knife Dad [EXCERPT]
He's part wolf, part mech, part rabbit, part fox, part sunglasses, part dragon, part dad, all dad, all knives, and he died for our sins.
The literary lens I never knew I needed
... but I do, apparently. I only listen occasionally because I am not familiar with very many of the dads, but this podcast is certainly a good time. merritt and the guests are very smart and invested, do give it a try! The special episodes (the dads of gaming one in particular) are also a treat.
Merritt is a fantastic host and her guest choices are always on-point. Shoutout to Nic Bravo for excellent production work and especially for the delightful mid-show content warnings.
Dadfeelings is particularly good at making me want to watch/read/consume media that wasn’t on my radar before. And supporting at the $3 level on the production Patreon gives access to some of the BEST episodes of this podcast.
dadfeelings is one of my all time favorite podcasts. Whether the subject is a dad I'm familiar with or not, whether merritt is talking to the listener by herself or with a guest, it's always a thought-provoking and often hilarious examination of fictional and sometimes real dads. The episodes featuring IRL dads talking about parenting are excellent, too. Some favorite episodes include Dad of Light, Rat Bohemia, Mr. Rogers and Mr. Dressup, Bob Ross, S. Bear Bergman, Stan Sitwell, Jake the Dog, Pee-wee Herman. Also, BEST LOGO EVER.
