SCIENCE: NASA flight surgeon Dr. Josef Schmid talks about becoming a real-life holographic doctor

This past April, it was announced that science fiction had become science fact, in that real-life doctors had been holoported to the International Space Station. One of those holographic doctors is Josef Schmid, a NASA flight surgeon. I sat down with him recently to discuss the breakthrough and learn what the future may hold, a future that includes being able to interact with astro-patients, just as Star Trek: Voyager’s holographic doctor does.

INTERVIEW: Authors Robb Pearlman and Jordan Hoffman on The Star Trek Book of Friendship

The Star Trek Book of Friendship is a new book about friendships throughout the franchise, lovingly told in conversation form by co-authors and friends Robb Pearlman and Jordan Hoffman. We're talking about the book and why it was important to make, and I force them to prove that their friendship is genuine (for science!).

Fantastic!

If you love getting a little bit of Trek in your life, five days a week, than this is your podcast!

Noticeable drop in quality after switch to weakly

The production value really dropped with the change from daily to weekly.

The show was AWESOME when daily, very polished. Now, with a week to prepare, it’s like there is no effort other than a quick internet search and a “let me read what I found” (and the recording sounds like it’s done in one take).

There are other weekly Star Trek news podcasts that are much better (and when the show was daily, I would have said “none of them could touch Allison and her show”) that I would recommend well above this one now.

Thanks!

Every day after I listen to your podcast I say “Thanks Alison” so I thought I would say it here: Thanks Alison! Love the show and appreciate the daily dose of Trek. Peace - f
