294: Winning Is Inside All of Us…

https://jeffheggie.com/2021/05/28/winning-is-inside-all-of-us/

“Don’t fear failure… Fear being in the exact same place next year as you are today.”

After posting that quote on Instagram I had a number of people discuss their goals with me. Actually, more than discussing their goals, they talked about how they don’t stick to their goals. I shared some quotes with them on winning from Tim Grover’s new book, W1NNING.

“Motivation is for those who haven’t decided whether to commit to their goals, or how much time, effort, and life they’re willing to invest to achieve them.”

“Winning is inside all of us, but for most, that’s where it will stay, trapped under a lifetime of fear and worry and doubt.”

“The race to greatness has no rules to protect you. Nothing says you’re not going to lose, you’re not going to get hurt, you’re not going to do all this work for nothing. There’s no guarantee it will be ‘fair.’ Most likely it will not be fair. You’ll lose at the buzzer. You’ll lose to someone who didn’t work as hard as you did. You’ll lose on a bad call, or a bad play. Someone else will get the job. A pandemic will wipe out your season, your bank account, your career.”

When we set goals and give up on them, it becomes a habit. It becomes something that we accept, and we start to accept it into all areas of our lives. Somehow, we figure out how to justify quitting as acceptable.

The first time you give up, it’s painful.

The second time it’s still painful but you’ve done it before and it feels familiar, and there’s comfort in familiarity.

Each time that you quit or give up, it becomes easier and easier.

But Jeff Olson says, “It’s just as easy to step back into the habit of succeeding as it is to slip into the habit of failing.”

It doesn’t matter where you are now.

It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve quit.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve allowed quitting to become a habit.

Start over today. Get back into the habit of succeeding! If you don’t have written out, clearly defined goals, get my free Momentum Series at https://jeffheggie.com/momentum/ to set your goals. If you’ve been through my Momentum Series before, but it’s been a while, go through it again.

“Winning will cost you everything, and reward you with more, if you’re willing to do the work”
