In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.

Best history podcast out there

If you haven’t checked out the “Wrath of Khans” episode, do yourself a favor and check it out…it’s not free (anymore) but it’s worth the $3…

History from a Cold War kid

Very entertaining, very paternalistic. He seems well meaning and is very enthusiastic about the topics he covers but he is VERY western centric. He supports the nuking of Japan but acknowledges that some people in India consider the Bengal famine a genocide to give you an idea of how he approaches the politics of what he covers. Where he shines is in documenting the actual experiences of the people who live in these monumental moments of history. Take him at his word, he’s not a historian, just a well read man reading the exerts that speak the most to him personally.

Three words…

Dan always delivers.

Every episode is well curated and delivered with the appropriate weight that each historical topic that Dan covers deserves. Can’t wait for the next show/series every time I finish the new one. While 6-7 months is a long wait, his process produces these gems so it’s 100% worth it. Plus it takes me back to the days people had to exercise patience and actually wait for things - keeps us unspoiled 😁

Thank you Mr. Carlin!
