Dan O'Brien is a playwright and poet with an uplifting story that is chronicled in a new collection of essays that has just debuted titled A STORY THAT HAPPENS. He is married to improvisational comedian Jessica St. Clair. The couple had their daughter and were thinking that with Dan’s book and plays and Jessica’s sitcoms and work, they were living out their dreams. That was until shortly after the birth of their daughter, Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer. With her sitcom and new baby, she was in the fight for her life. It was a trying time and through it all, Dan was by her side. As Jessica rounded out her final treatment, Dan called to tell her that he was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. It was a double whammy of fear and gearing up for another literal fight of their lives. Dan beat the odds and the two are still here to offer guidance to all of those who have kids and have to navigate fear, grief, positivity and work. I had the great pleasure of interviewing him about all of this and more.
