The Murders of George and Catherine Peacock (Vermont)

The Murders of George and Catherine Peacock (Vermont)

When an elderly couple was found murdered inside their Danby, Vermont home in the fall of 1989, it had residents of the small town looking over their shoulders and double-checking their door locks at night.

State Police identified a suspect early on in the investigation, but the evidence they had against this person was largely circumstantial, and the physical evidence, a single drop of blood, wasn’t enough to point to a suspect. And so, the double murder sat unsolved for over thirty years until 2020, when the case was reopened with the hope that new forensic DNA analysis could finally shine a light on long-concealed answers.

Thoughtful, we’ll-paced and intriguing

I’m a huge fan of all things audiochuck and subscribed to Dark Down East after Ashley Flowers announced it was being added to the audiochuck podcast family. Like any true Crime Junkie, I’m a binger, so I started from thee beginning of Kylie’s catalogue and I’m working my way to the latest episodes. I’m so impressed with the thoughtfulness of the writing, the pacing of the episodes and the details of the cases. It’s easy to tell Kylie cares about the victims, which makes this show a perfect fit for audiochuck. Excited to keep listening 🦞 Update: Just listened to the Jon Pownall episode, and Kylie’s description at the end of what it was like to lose her mother hit me hard. “Like a warm blanket I never knew I had wrapped around me was ripped away and I’ll never feel quite as warm ever again.” I don’t think I could describe better the feeling of losing my dad. Hearing it put into words like that helped me understand my own feelings better than ever about that loss. Kylie is truly a gifted writer. And I’m so thankful she’s using that gift to share these victims’ stories with such compassion and honesty. ❤️

Solid show, but some episodes are empty

Overall, this is a really good show that tells the story without the editorial commentary other podcasts add that I hate. Kylie has a great speaking voice, and the material seems well researched. My only complaint is sometimes, there’s clearly not a lot of information on case, so to fill the time, Kyle interviews families, talks about organizations started as a result of the case, and gives long biographies of the victim. Now, I understand the inclination to humanize and not make someone the sum of what happened to them, but this is a true crime podcast, so we want the details of the crime and subsequent investigation. If there’s not a lot to be said about the case, don’t cover the case. Otherwise, I truly do like this show a lot.

The new speech pattern is tough to hear

I loved this show for many reasons but now that it’s become big, it seems like you are trying to change your speech pattern. Maybe to sound cooler? Or more professional or something? It’s tough to listen to. You were better before. You don’t need to change the way you talk.
