Dark Valley

Dark Valley is an investigation into the Connecticut River Valley Killer (CRVK) and the 8 women who were brutally murdered. CRVK prowled the borderland of Vermont and New Hampshire in the 1980s. These cases remain unsolved to this day. Produced and hosted by Jennifer Amell. Narratively driven, Dark Valley centralizes the story of Jane Boroksi, considered to be the lone survivor of the Valley Killer as she and Jennifer investigate the cold cases of Catherine Millican, Elizabeth Betsy Critchley, Heidi Martin, Bernice Courtemanche, Ellen Fried, Eva Morse, Lynda Moore, and Barbara Agnew. Jane Boroski recounts her harrowing attack in 1988, when a stranger savagely stabbed her 27 times while she was pregnant. The investigation unfolds in real-time as Jennifer works to highlight the victims' voices and uncover new leads and suspects by talking with law enforcement, criminal profiler Dr. John Philpin, victims' families, and locals.

New England can be dark

I just turned 50, and I remember this being a huge story while I was growing up in northern VT. It was one of the first occurrences that led me to true crime in my teens, and it sculpted my sense of "constant vigilance" as a woman, something I have tried to teach my children as they grew. This podcast has done an amazing job capturing the feeling and importance of this story and the area in which it took place for its beauty and its darkness. We are a tenacious people up here, for good or ill. PS. I enjoyed hearing accents I recognized and also the openness and closeness we have here in each individual. We are suspicious and judgy. Cool, that is a word.
A must listen!!

Outstanding Investigation

When I first heard this podcast was linked to the Crime Junkie shows and Audio Chuck, I knew it would at least be good. It was by far one of the best podcasts, of any genre, that I’ve ever listened to. The investigation was beyond thorough, no stone left unturned. One episode was dedicated to each victim, and gave them their voices back. The lone survivor, Jane, contributed a great deal to the first half of the series, and I am so happy that she has a great life now— she’s such a strong person. Surprisingly, Jennifer was able to get several of the potential suspects to agree to be interviewed, and she was very empathetic and fair with them. Excellent work, Jennifer! I hope you have another season coming.
