Passion to Action – The Next Chapter!

Introducing the Girl Scouts of Maine’s new Media Squad initiative. Designed to empower Girl Scouts to share their experiences with peers and become active spokespeople across various media channels, this opportunity will equip participants with the skills and platforms to effectively promote the values, benefits, and experiences of being part of the organization. True to the - girl-led, learning-by-doing, and cooperative learning - tenets that are embedded into the structure of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, we will be moving the Passion to Action series into the hands of the girls. As part of the Media Squad Brand Ambassador Program, we will teach girls how to host, produce, edit, and distribute podcasts, Livestreams, and other content associated with the series - over the course of 2024.  In keeping with this objective, Girl Scouts of Maine will begin releasing everything on their new podcast platform in the near future.  Today I’ll be speaking with Laura Genese, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Girl Scouts of Maine, and Helen Ruhlin, Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Girl Scouts of Maine.  We are excited to tell you more about the GSME Media Squad and the exciting changes coming up for the Passion to Action series.  Links to Check Out: Girl Scouts of Maine WebsiteLink to Join Girl Scouts of MaineGet Involved with Girl Scouts of MaineGirl Scouts of Maine News PageContact Girl Scouts of MaineLaura & Helen's Email Laura's Email: lgenese@gsmaine.orgHelen's Email: hruhlin@gsmaine.orgGirl Scouts of Maine Social Media: Girl Scouts of Maine LinkedInGirls Scouts of Maine FacebookGirl Scouts of Maine Instagram - @girlscoutsofmaineGirl ScoutsDonate to support Girl Scouts of Maine: www.girlscoutsofmaine.org/support Follow Daughters of Change: Website:Facebook:InstagramLinkedInMarie's LinkedIn:Daughters of Change Podcast Producer:  Sarah Stacey Sarah's LinkedIn Profile

  2. Into the Light

    Into the Light

My guest on this episode, Aliza Hava, is an award-winning singer/songwriter whose music explores the deepest levels of love, life, and the power of positive social change. After college, she began performing at and co-producing concerts at the United Nations headquarters in NYC. She earned a position as Chair of the UN International Day of Peace NGO Music Committee and went on to produce live concerts on six continents in partnership with over forty civic society, governmental, and environmental organizations.  While living part-time in the Middle East, Aliza represented UN-related peacebuilding initiatives and worked with Israeli and Palestinian musicians to promote peace and dialogue through music. She went on to produce the internationally live-streamed concert, Harmony in the Holy Land. This extraordinary event united Muslim, Christian, and Jewish musicians in a universal, musical prayer for peace from the heart of Jerusalem. Watching Palestinians and Israelis meet as strangers and part ways as friends, Aliza felt the reaffirmation of her calling to build bridges through the healing power of music. Featured on the soundtrack of Sharon Stone’s award-winning documentary, Femme: Women Healing the World, which also features performances by Annie Lennox, Yoko Ono, and Rickie Lee Jones, Aliza is a recipient of the Human Spirit Award presented by the international organization Talent for Humanity.  Aliza’s New Album “Into The Light” is coming out soon.  Produced by multi-platinum Grammy-winner Mikal Blue, the album features ten songs that take the listener on a soulful journey from darkness, “Into the Light.”  Links to Check Out Aliza and Her Music: Aliza's website - alizahava.comListen to Aliza's Music Aliza's YouTube ChannelSpotifyApple MusicSound CloudBandCampAmazon MusicAliza's Social Media Aliza's InstagramAliza's Facebook pageAliza's Twitter - XAliza's Tik TokFollow Daughters of Change: Website:Facebook:InstagramLinkedInMarie's LinkedIn:Daughters of Change Producer:  Sarah Stacey Sarah's LinkedIn Profile

    Exploring Endless Possibilities Through Camp

Girl Scout Camp enhances kids’ well-being through face-to-face connections and outdoor activities. Kids can be screen-free in a fun and safe environment that fosters social skills and happy campers! More outdoor experiences allow campers to embrace challenges and excel in problem-solving, qualities vital for future success, both academically and personally. Time in nature boosts concentration and creative reasoning. Outdoor experiences enhance healthy social development and boost self-esteem. Our guests today are the directors of the Maine Girl Scout camps. Tonia Stewart is the Assistant Director of Camp Programming for the Girl Scouts of Maine and the Director of Camp Pondicherry. As an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker and passionate outdoors enthusiast, Tonia loves sharing her knowledge and appreciation for the great outdoors.  Barbara Ireland is a second-grade teacher and the Director of Camp Natarswi. She has been part of Camp Natarswi for 24 years and can’t imagine spending a summer anywhere else. Barbara cherishes being outdoors with an awesome view and providing an experience that keeps campers coming back.  Links to Check Out: Camp Registration | Girl Scouts of MaineCamp_Guide.pdf (girlscoutsofmaine.org)Summer Camp Employment | Girl Scouts of MaineGirl Scout Cookie FinderVolunteer with Girl Scouts of MaineGirl Scouts of Maine WebsiteGirl Scouts USAFollow Girl Scouts of Maine: Girl Scouts of Maine LinkedInGirls Scouts of Maine FacebookGirl Scouts of Maine Instagram - @girlscoutsofmaineDonate to support Girl Scouts of Maine: www.girlscoutsofmaine.org/support Follow Daughters of Change: Website:Facebook:InstagramLinkedInMarie's LinkedIn:Daughters of Change Podcast Producer:  Sarah Stacey Sarah's LinkedIn Profile

  4. Rosie on the Rise!

    Rosie on the Rise!

I’m excited to be re-releasing this episode with our youngest Daughter of Change to date - Rosie – from the popular Go Rosie Grow show. Rosie is an amazing eight-year-old from Detroit Michigan who uses her talents to shine a light on historical black figures and icons. Since we spoke in March of 2023, big things have been happening for Rosie and her family's team of talented women known as “The Big 3” - a nod to their hometown auto industry. This trio of Daughters of Change includes Rosie, her sister A’Blesyn, and her mom Kenya Faye. Late last Fall, Rosie was discovered by Oprah, and her Instagram account has soared to over 100,000 followers. When Niecy Nash, well-known actor, and television host, caught wind of Rosie reenacting the famous table scene from The Color Purple – playing all the character's roles may I add – she sent it along to Oprah. Oprah was wowed! She reached out to Rosie and invited the Big 3 to come to the Los Angeles Premier of the remake of The Color Purple and walk the purple carpet with her. While Rosie is the star of the show, her big sister A’Blesyn is the mastermind behind the camera who directs, films, and edits all Rosie’s videos. Her mom Kenya Faye creates the wardrobe magic and chooses the scenes.
