Dave Hersh: One Separation Away From Changing Course

The One Away Show

Dave Hersh is the founding CEO of Jive, which he grew from a small open source project up to its IPO, and served as a board partner at the VC firm Andreessen Horowitz. Today, Dave is a general partner at Metamorph Partners, specializing in operator-led buyouts of slower-growth, venture-backed companies, equipping them to become healthy and sustainable. Dave also consults, speaks, and coaches on transforming companies (and ourselves in the process).

Dave’s book on startup transformation, Reignition, released in Spring ’24 from Inc. Originals Press. In addition, Dave is already at work on a second book about channeling human creativity in the age of AI.

When the end of a relationship left Dave at a critical juncture in life, he turned inward to find his path forward. Hear how this transformational period changed him on the One Away Show.

The One Away Moment

Dave’s journey of inner work centered him, allowing him to emerge stronger from his divorce and separation. Inspired, he embarked on a new chapter, launching a new business and revitalizing his personal and professional life.

Three Key Takeaways

  1. You have to strip away your egoic self to get to your essence

  2. Treat money and wealth as temporary visitors; never let them change who you are.

  3. Embrace traits like empathy, deep thinking, and listening to truly connect and succeed, rather than just relying on technology.
