SHANTY

By Paper Soul

Written by J. Merrill Motz

Performed by Suzie Juul

Intro music by GabrielDouglas from Pixabay

Outro music by Cherly KaCherly from the Free Music Archive

SHANTY was originally produced in April 2019 as part of Freshwater Theatre's "Blood Runs Cold", performed by Ariel Pinkerton.

Special thanks to Samantha Star of Mermaid Music, and to Ariel Pinkerton.

SHANTY was inspired by the old traditional song (sometimes called a murder ballad) The Twa Sisters, but with a slight Minnesota slant. If you know the song you know the story, and if you don't, well...that would give it away. SHANTY was originally produced in April 2019 as part of Freshwater Theatre's "Blood Runs Cold", performed by Ariel Pinkerton.

Paper Soul was founded by Motz (rhymes with boats) for the 2013 MN Fringe and has created several experiments in the solo performance style ever since. Motz's plays have been produced locally through Freshwater Theatre, Swandive Theatre's Veggie Stock, Fearless Comedy Presents, and the University of Wisconsin at Fon du Lac. Motz serves on the board of directors for Theatre Pro Rata, the artist committee for the Minnesota Fringe, and as co-host of Workplace Drama, a storytelling show based in both Minneapolis & Los Angeles, alongside Les Kurkendaal-Barrett.

Paper Soul may or may not be participating in various digital fringe festivals in the coming year, hopefully, but updates can be found at www.papersoul.org

BLOOM

Written by Rob Ward

Performed by Natalie Rae Wass

Special thanks to Sean Dillon

Rob says: “My grandmother told me a story about a friend of hers who had these diet pills. One day in the 1960s, this friend was over at my grandmother’s house and left her diet pills on the windowsill. It was summer. The sun melted the pills and revealed to her what made them so effective. Those pills my grandmother’s friend had contained eggs. The hot sun caused those eggs to hatch...into tapeworms. Now tapeworms are disgusting little things. I wanted to explore the idea of a beautiful parasite.”

Rob Ward is an actor, choreographer, and most recently, a writer, living and working in the Twin Cities. His most recent piece “A Visit From St. Christopher” was featured on the Blight Christmas podcast. Rob serves as a board member/resident psychopath for Oncoming Productions.

Natalie has been working as an actor, mascot, emcee, a
