Dense tissue and breast cancer detection Breast Cancer Detection Technology Update

    • Science

Today we talk about the unique challenges associated with detecting cancer in women with radiographically dense breasts and a new technology that aims to help improve cancer detection rates in patients with dense breast tissue.
It's important to recognize that the term "dense breast" doesn't refer to how a breast feels - it simply means that the internal structure is developed in such a way that it obscures the image of potential growths in X-ray imaging.
A new technology will allow doctors to see through the dense internal structures and be better able to detect any signs of cancer. It is called the Sofia automated breast ultrasound tomography system and we talk with its inventor about the technology and the issue of dense breast tissue.
