Chatting to Picking Me Foundation Founder and CEO, Lauren McKeaney

Chatting to Picking Me Foundation Founder and CEO, Lauren McKeaney

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Dermatillo-diaries! Today I have with me a very special guest, CEO and Founder of Picking Me Foundation, Lauren McKeaney.
Founded in August 2016 and through Lauren’s efforts, Picking Me Foundation NFP is the only donor-supported nonprofit dedicated to advocating Dermatillomania (Skin Picking Disorder) for sufferers, supporters, and educational communities alike, encouraging individuals to choose themselves over the mental illness that chose them.

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Lauren  - it was great to hear more on what Picking Me Foundation are doing for BFRB sufferers like me. I remember first coming across the foundation and instantly feeling so seen and understood. It's no wonder that many, many others are feeling better supported through the amazing work that they do.

Feel free to check Picking Me Foundation out on Instagram, as well as details on their 5th birthday party celebrations.

As always, please let me know if you enjoyed this episode or the podcast itself by giving a review - it really helps and I appreciate it so much.

You can check out more dermatillomania and BFRB based content over on my Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. If you'd like to be part of an episode, please email me.

My skin prepping TIPS for events! - FACE & BODY

My skin prepping TIPS for events! - FACE & BODY

In this episode, I wanted to discuss the ways I prepare my skin and mental state, for an event.

Any large event - whether its a birthday party, summer bbq, wedding or prom, may require you to dress up in attire which is less casual and more formal. With this being said, some outfits may showcase areas of the skin you usually pick and could feel fearful of showing.
I know this feeling well, but overtime I’ve created a ritual leading up to the event, during, as well afterwards, to help me feel a bit more confident and comfortable within my skin.
Please note everyone is different - different skin types, areas of focus, triggers and processes to positively manage them. This is my process, and I've used my recent occasion as a wedding guest, as the example here  - hopefully it may be of use to you.
    List of products mentioned:
    Patches
    Hibiscrub antibacterial wash
    Lustre blue light strips:

Yael shares her skin-picking journey and understanding TRIGGERS

Yael shares her skin-picking journey and understanding TRIGGERS

In this episode, I chat to Los Angeles-based Yael, on what has helped her compulsive skin picking.

From CBT and visiting a dermatologist, to helpful additions such as assorted thimblettes and Philip Hue light bulbs which are phone-operated through Wifi (great for when you're wanting to take charge of triggers such as bright lights!). We also chat about Yael's journey with medication to help as well as why it's important to remove yourself from toxic people around you, to increase self-acceptance.

You can chat to Yael directly at A Beauty Blob!

I hope you enjoy and thank you for listening.

Board-certified DERMATOLOGIST, Dr Karhade MD FAAD, talks skin-picking

Board-certified DERMATOLOGIST, Dr Karhade MD FAAD, talks skin-picking

I had SO much fun speaking with Dr Kaveri Karhade around the subject of compulsive skin picking.

Dr Karhade MD FAAD, is a board-certified Dermatologist who is based in San Francisco, and  has been featured in Allure and Women's Health.

In this conversation, we discuss topics such as compulsive skin picking, how to take care of skin post-picking, help with hyperpigmentation, dermatillomania knowledge within the medical field and much more.

I also learned a REALLY cool tip to help treat folliculitis, which is when bacteria and yeast create inflamed hair folicles, often mistaken for acne.

As always, reach out to your medical professional on options available to you if you're in need of help with your skin-picking and/or mental and emotional well-being.

Hope you enjoy this episode and if you do, please leave a review! You can also come say hey over on Instagram and check out my short videos on TikTok!

    Thanks for listening.

Speaking with Dermatillomania author and advocate, Angela Hartlin

Speaking with Dermatillomania author and advocate, Angela Hartlin

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Angela Hartlin on compulsive skin picking, after reading her amazing book, 'Forever Marked: A Dermatillomania Diary' which documents her years of skin picking struggle and self-discovery.

Whilst juggling being a new mother and living with chronic pain, Angela openly supports and encourages others in the skin picking community through her Skin Picking Support Group.

This conversation is a long one, because there was so much to discuss! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Angela on social media as well as her documentary, 'Scars of Shame' - she is also working on a new book which is aimed to assist in recovery, sharing techniques which have helped Angela over the years.

As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask over on Instagram, or you can email me! You can also find me on TikTok.
