Despairing of Thirst | Numbers 20:2-6
Scripture:
“Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron. And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the Lord! Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here? And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.” So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces. And the glory of the Lord appeared to them.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭20:2-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/114/num.20.2-6.NKJV

Observations:
• No water
• thirsty people
• whole congregation contended against Moses and Aaron
• saying it would have been better to die before the Lord (implying like the rebels?)
• longing for Egypt, reminiscing of the bounties of slavery. How tempting it is to live like the world
• Moses & Aaron take it to the Lord’s Presence

Application:
James 4:1-3 “Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

Prayer: the direction of God’s presence
“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalms‬ ‭16:11‬ ‭
