Dirty Nanay: A Nod to the Unfiltered Filipino American Mother Dirty Nanay
-
- Kids & Family
-
Dirty Nanay is hosted by Filipinx American mom pals Rissa and Zee. In typical mom fashion, the bottles pop open once the kids are asleep, mom lenses are off, and we become unfiltered "dirty nanays" that have the liquid courage to talk about unique experiences of Filipinx parenthood and to rail against unnecessary parenthood expectations exacerbated by white supremacy. This is dedicated to all our listeners. YOU ARE ENOUGH. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Now sit back, relax, get your drankkk ready (i.e. San Miguel, lambanog, Crown, etc.) and enjoy the sweet sounds of shit talking with Rissa and Zee.

EP 021 - Dirty (& Sandwiched) Nanay: Living In The "Sandwich Generation"
Being a part of the Sandwich Generation can feel really burned and sticky all at the same time. What is the Sandwich Generation, you ask? "We are the generation of people, typically in their 30s or 40s, responsible for bringing up their own children and for the care of their aging parents." Zee and Rissa discuss how this shows up for them, the sacrifices made to make sure the peanut butter of their parents and the jelly of their children are healthy and happy, the conflict that shows up with meeting these demands, and facing the concept of their aging parents' mortality--- because just don't ketchup to them in age. Feeling spread thin? Caught up in a jam? Feeling in the middle and stuck in a pickle? This episode is for you. And guess who has a bun in the oven...

EP 020 - Dirty (& Scared) Nanay: Let's get spooky!
It's that time of the year when Zee and Rissa contemplate their decision to feature a scary Halloween episode! Zee and Rissa invite a friend in this scarefest of an episode to tell Filipinx scary stories, hypothesize how monsters smell, dialogue about unexpected sources of fear, explore a Filipinx mythological creature, and play a bastardized version of D&D just so they have a variety of flavors to inspire dread when the lights turn off.

EP 019 - Dirty (& Transitioning) Nanay: The Unicorn Episode
***NOTE: This episode was recorded in September 2022***
Transitions are hard! It's like living in constant limbo. Zee and Rissa get philosophical and process the concept of changes and transition and how that plays into our world as parents, as working moms, and as human beings with lots of different roles we cherish. It's like living in constant limbo without the certain of... well, certainty.

EP 018 - Dirty (& Ageless) Nanay: Age Ain't Nothing But A Number
Be a doctor at 23, get married by 26, have babies at 27 (make sure it's twins so you get your multiples done!), find an uninhabited new island and claim it your own by 30. Ever feel this low (maybe high?) hum pressure of needing to fulfill these things by 30 or else you're labeled as a failure? Zee and Rissa delve into these arbitrary timeline expectations and talk about how this showed up for them, how it continues to impact them, and what they intend to do to protect their kids from these insignificant expectations with significant impact on people's well-being and happiness.

EP 017 - Dirty (& Friendly) Nanay: Maintaining Friendships
Ah the magic of friendship! In this episode, Zee and Rissa explore the natural changes in friendships while we parent toddlers--- the celebrations and also grief of trying to maintain these meaningful connections. We start the episode off with imagining our parallel universe selves coming up with a new TV show that involves matchmaking parents with other parents (because, finding parent friends is so much harder than finding a friend just for you--- especially after our 30's!), followed by a dialogue that has us talking about the waning and waxing of relationships as we navigate parenthood.

EP 016 Dirty (& Pretty) Nanay: Filipinx Beauty Expectations
What is pretty? Oh so pretty? It's apparently Eurocentric and patriarchal dictated and it's the WORST. Zee and Rissa dialogue about the harmful expectations of beauty on Filipina women, how we've seen it intentionally and unintentionally perpetuated in our childhood, and our daily efforts to combat its harm as it continues to rear its ugly head as we try to live our life free from its manicured, dangerous grasp.

All the filipinx feels!
So funny and I can relate to everything they talk about being Filipinx. I wasn’t born there but being a first generation child, I was definitely influenced by filipino culture and all their stories are hilariously true. It’s so ridiculous how we all have these cultured stories that sound so similar. Keep the pod going, mahal kita! 💜
Too annoying!
First 3 minutes and boom!!! I cannot stand these 2.
For all you intersectional Filipinx parents there
The podcast I need to validate my parenting, my culture, and many other identities. The hosts are real, they’re genuine, and they’re curious about how these identities intersect. They cover it all in the goofy and tired way that all exhausted caregivers know well. They’re a comfort to me and perfect to listen to on a drive to pick up hella food at Hmart or if you need a laugh while you’re folding that never ending pile of laundry that slowly eats away at your soul. You won’t even notice yourself in a never ending loop of folding that one fitted sheet for your toddler’s bed, because you’ll be laughing And snickering along with Zee and Rissa! Love em.
